Datsyuk, Lidstrom, Draper AND Lilja participating in full practice tod

Hey everybody, first post here. Been a fan of the wings for 15 years. Obviously as you can tell Fedorov was and always will be my favorite player.

But TSN is saying Datsyuk wasn't going all out. Worries me given that Game 1 is so close.

You're still a day away so there time for him to feel a little better. Plus if he's not ready sit him one more game. I think they can deal one, maybe two more games, without him. Lidstrom is who they need back on the ice more so in my opinion. You can be just going with 4 D again.

i've never played hockey, so i don't know, but has anybody had a bruised foot from a puck? does it really keep you out of the lineup for a week and a half (in the playoffs?!?!) ? i have a sneaking suspicion dats' foot is fractured and he won't be back. how many games can you be a game-time decision. if you're game-time decision one game, you're almost sure to play the next game. it's seeming more plausible that the wings are stringing datsyuk along as a possibility so that other teams have to prepare as if he's playing, while the wings know full well datsyuk isn't close.

without a doubt! it doesn't need to be a break to be very bruised and very swollen...

when i played juniors, I actually played one game with a skate 2 sizes larger than I wore on the other foot because my foot was so swollen from blocking a shot the game before... unlike pro's there were no reserves and the coach needed me, so I skated, but I was at 50% at best and saw limited action...

It depends on where the injury is, if its bruised and swelling it can create a ton of pain if you can even get it in the skate boot. The new skates are rock hard, even when broken in they are extremely stiff, I can see where you could get the foot in and just not be able to skate efficiently.

For instance if he took one below the knob in the side of the foot. There isn't alot of padding there and there is a muscle and tendon structure called the Perouneus Brevis it helps get you up on your toes and provides balance. Quick explosive starts from a dead stop are kind of an up on your toes type move that would be difficult if you had soft tissue damage to the Perouneus. There is another muscle below it the Peroneus Longus which deals with flexing of the ankle, I think you can clearly see where I'm going. There is alot of stuff in the foot that could prevent one from playing without something being broken.

that makes me feel a little bit better. how much time between games? were you recovering well a week and a half later? (not that you were hit by an nhl caliber shot, but still)

Well, never played hockey, but if it's a bone bruise, those are some seriously painful bruises. I once fell 4ft and landed with my knee on the edge of a cinder block, any time I had to kneel on that knee felt like it was flooded with liquid fire for the better part of a year after the incident. So there are different levels of bruising...

exactly... it wasn't an NHL'er, so I'm sure that makes a ton of difference, but there were still guys in the league that could crank it up to high 80's/low 90's and I thought it was broken at first... it took me really 2 full weeks until I would say I was 100%, but I was skating back at about 80% (where I was helping more than I was hurting the team) after a little less than a week....

the way I look at it, if he's even skating, it's probably not broken... I'd expect him back by game 3 at the latest

I have to say, the way the pengs are playing currently. I am a bit concerned.

I don't think the pengs have a shot if the wings were 100%. The Wings are too deep of a team. But I think Datsyuk is so important in a series where you need to shut down a opposing centerman like Sid. People who aren't Wing fans can say what they want about Pavel's lack of goals. But what he does on the ice is so much more than just goals.

The only reason it still doesn't worry me as much, is we have SO many other shutdown defensive minds, that it's not as big of a worry to me...

Good thing it's Z who was/is the shut down man for the Wings.

;)

Don't get me wrong, I think Z is AMAZING defensively and he and Pavel are 1 and 1a on that topic... but I think Pavel is the 1 in this case... not by much, but a slight edge....

I think what gives Pavel the edge is his ability to not only stop opposing players but to cleanly strip them of the puck, take possession and go the other way on a break.

I am extremely excitied to see Lidstrom back in the game and i am hoping for dats but i really cant see lilja or drapes playing this series.

You know damned well that if dats comes back he is gonna get slashed non stop on the feet from the pens. They cant rush him back or the pens will just hack away. He needs some padding if he's coming back.. and god i want him back

Even if he doesn't come back this year this is very good to hear. I was starting to get worried for his health.

It's great to have him back. He's a very good presence in the locker room. When they interview him he's always well-spoken and insightful and he seems to get along well with everyone. Just having him skating with everyone will be an encouragement.

Dang it. I was hoping Lidstrom, Datsyuk, Helm, Zetterberg, and Lilja would all be out so the Penguins could win a game!!! Wings are dynamite.

I think it's funny to see Helm and Lilja mentioned as key players given all the slack Lilja has gotten between game five in '07 until this season, and the fact that Helm is only a rookie grinder. I'm glad the Wings have such threatening depth.

Disagree completely. Z was matched up against the Nash, Getzlaf, and Toews lines in each respective series.

Z is the number one shutdown center on the team.
