Whats up Detroit... Not a Pens or Wings fan

Also everyone and their mother here in Pgh is soooooooo pumped up the Pavel D is possibly playing because of the whole "he is injured and overrated" talk going on.

The greatest thing in the world that could happen is for the Pens to underestimate the best all around player in the nhl... a.k.a Pavel Datsyuk.

While your fans watch Z dismember Crysbys hope for a shot on goal, thay cn also watch Datsyuk strip Malkin of the puck and score a breakaway goal skating sideways on his backhand :)

Good luck the Dats is injured so he wont play well.

P.S

Datsyuk has not had a bad playoffs, he has not scored many goals yes, but he was effective until he got injured.

Versus scores highest-rated,most-watched telecast ever with Game 3 of Stanley Cup Final

Wednesday, 06.03.2009 / 6:25 PM / 2009 Stanley Cup Final: Detroit vs. Pittsburgh By NHL .com NEW YORK, N.Y. (June 3, 2009)

VERSUS, the exclusive cable television home of the National Hockey League (NHL), garnered a 2.6 national HH rating and averaged 2,955,348 viewers for its Game 3 telecast of the 2009 Stanley Cup Final on Tuesday, June 2, with the Pittsburgh Penguins’ 4-2 defeat over the Detroit Red Wings at Mellon Arena. The game, which peaked at a 3.5 HH rating between 10:15 and 10:30 p.m., was the highest-rated and most-watched Stanley Cup Final game on cable since 2002. VERSUS, for the 8:00-10:45 p.m. time period, was the most-viewed cable network in the country and the top-rated network overall (broadcast and cable) among all key male demos.

The 2.6 national HH rating is the best rating ever in the history of the network, beating both Lance Armstrong's final ride (7/24/05) and Game 5 between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks in the Conference Finals (5/27/09) which both earned a 2.1 HH rating. Among average viewers, the Game 3 telecast topped the network's previous high set during Game 2 of the 2008 Stanley Cup Final (2,608,371). VERSUS' Game 3 telecast showed a 37-percent increase in HH rating (2.6 vs 1.9) and 19-percent growth (2,955,348 vs 2,479,977) in average viewership over the average of Games 1 and 2 of the 2008 Stanley Cup Final between the Red Wings and Penguins.

Locally, VERSUS garnered a 15.1 HH rating in Detroit and a 26.1 HH rating in Pittsburgh, making VERSUS the top-rated network (broadcast and cable) for the time period in both markets. VERSUS was also a top 5 cable network for the time period in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Washington, DC and Philadelphia, among others.

That's even subtracting the 20K plus Pens fans who were AT THE ARENA and not tuned into VS. Even when our team and city had their financial issues, fans still tuned into the games on TV. We love our hockey just as much as Detroit does theirs, and having poor economies is something both cities share. Seeing the low numbers at the Joe over the years I would think some of you should understand where PGH and Pens have been.

If you want to discuss idiot sports fans, or bandwagoners.. keep in mind they're in any city and in every sport..

Pittsburgh loves hockey for sure, but don't say something ridiculous like they love it more than the people in Detroit. Get real. Whenever a Pens game and a Steelers game are being played at the same time, most of the city is watching the Steelers. Pittsburgh is a football town first. Always has been and probably always will be. Detroit is... well its HOCKEYTOWN. They'll watch the Wings over anything else. Saying that Pittsburgh loves hockey as much as Detroit is absurd.

Did I say that?

Comparing the football and hockey viewership of both cities is a poor example. Plain and simple the Lions stink and outside of Barry pretty much always have. I have to think that if they did have a ring or two.. (or anything remotely worth rooting for) things might be a little different in Detroit. It's not completely about one sport vs the other. The actual success of the teams play a role.

PGH is as die hard for its sports (provided it's a contact sport) as any other city in this country. I did love watching us win a Superbowl in Detroit, so thank you for that.. would be neat to get a cup there too!

My bad... "as much as Pittsburgh"... which is still incorrect.

Detroit has the Pistons, who have won a couple championships while the Wings were not in contention for the Cup and Detroit was still a bigger hockeytown.

My point is that Pittsburgh loves hockey, but it will always be second, while Detroit would watch hockey no matter what. I've always said that the Red Wings are to Detroit, what the Steelers are to Pittsburgh. I just see the same type of passion for these franchises from both fan bases. I don't see that type of passion between the Pens and Pittsburgh.

Detroiters know better than to watch Versus  Many of us opt for CBC, where they actually talk about the play on the ice and don't just spew what the league feeds them

Well first I am from Southern Ontario and played Junior A until I was 19, so Im not a hockey retard or anything... I relocated to Pittsburgh a 10 years back (job).

Now that the Pens are decent the bandwagon here has filled up... I dont mind new hockey fans but so many of them are complete hockey retards since they have only been fans the past few years.. When my team would be playing the Pens in Pgh years ago I had to sit thru hours of Steeler talk with the 8K fans that would show up to the games. Now everyone here is a hockey expert... Here are some of my Pet Peeves hockey wise

- Everyone here says Pittsburgh in the best market in the USA for hockey.... Umm Detroit? Minny? Buffalo? The north eastern USA??

- Everyone here thinks Gretzky was not a good player.. Since he played before 1991 (thats when the Pens could sell more than 9K tickets per game) he shouldnt be counted.

- Everyone here thinks Ovie is not a good player because all he does is "score goals"

- Everyone here thinks U guys getting Pavel D back is actually a plus for the Pens since he has been garbage all playoffs

- Everyone here thinks they know everything about hockey because they play NHL 2008

- Plus there are our local sports talk idiots... For football they are good.. For hockey they are a disaster. The 1 guy Mike Logan is a mumbling ex steeler, that didnt know what icing was 1 year ago (its true)... The other guys on the AM dial that want to talk Steelers and Pirates 24/7... Then our resident fat boy Mark Madden. He is really 5 foot 9 close to 400 lbs... He has been that way all of his life and now is working on his 3rd heart attack. He claims to be a hockey guru not because he has ever played hockey but coaches a local deck hockey team for kids??? Yeah that makes u an expert. Anyways he has been droning on about how Detroit has been cheating and when Crosby doesnt score it just hurts the NHL and now that the Pens won their first game there is no way Detroit will win again.

Now that the Pens won a game all I keep hearing is "Letang will be better than Lidstrom" "Talbot is better than Hossa" "Zetterburg is overrated" "Osgood isa choker" "Fleury is of course beter than Patrick Roy"...

Plus did u ever go to a game in Pgh?? I remember 1 time I go and my team wins... Well druing the game Im pretty suprised about how many of the fans are under 22 and female... Then I see the signs "Sid shoot it in my 5 hole" "Marry me Jordan" "I love you Talbot" "Lisa heart sign Marc Andre" "Jordan I love you!!"..... I almost thought I was at a Back Street Boys concert... So anyways Im leavin after my team wins and this group of 15 years olds scream "Who cares about the score... Our players are hotter!!"

Just win these next 2 games so everyone here can go back to saying "Pittsburgh still has a hockey team???"

HAHAHAHHAHA.

Wow. Its too funny that the Pens rely on these guys to win.

Not to mention he was up against defenses much tougher than Pittsburgh's.

Exactly. Other teams have done to Dats what Z does to Crosby, but unlike other teams the wings have a DEEP bench, an can get it done without 2+ key guys.

Pen key players... Crosby, Malkin,Marc-Andre Fleury

Wings Key Players, Z, Dats, Hoss,Lids, Franzenstien, Ozzie,

Ummm we win.

Exactly.

I watch every single game that I can on CBC. I refuse to listen to VS. Load of horse crap.

Maybe that's the key word.. Passion. Nearly every single Pittsburgher is passionate for the Steelers. My 92 yr grandmother fought the doctors in her hospital over her TV to watch them. They didn't like how the games were raising her heart rate.. she said there wasn't a better way to go than seeing them play. I know Detroit (as a city) has that same passion for the Wings.

When I say that Pens fans love their Hockey just as much, I was meaning the fans.. the STH like myself who've been through it all and do have that same passion. Sorry, I wasn't trying to compare the cities themselves and what each team means to them. This is by far Steelers Country, and you're right comapring that to the Wings. I spend a lot of time in Saginaw for work and get to see both sides 1st hand.
