Win or lose...

We all know how difficult it is to get to the Play-offs after winning a championship; the statistics do not lie. Our boys managed to pull off a damn near impossible feat: Make it to Play-Offs, and to the finals, as the champion. Not only that, but they are 1 win away from a repeat. Props, maaaad props. If they pull it off, that's 2 repeats in 12 years. Something that is considered an impossiblity in todays hockey game.

Win or lose, we are damn lucky to be fans of such a damn awesome team. Finish this!

GO WINGS!

Who was the last team to win back to back Stanley Cup Championships?

We are fortunate to have such a great organization to be a part of.

Go Wings!

Last night my wife said she misses the old Wings (she named Stevie Y and Shanny and Bret Hull) and I said "so do I. However, I'd rather miss them and have the next gen dominate and win the cup, and teach their young how to continue once they've passed the torch, rather than getting a bunch of totally new guys that aren't winning more than a round here and a round there.

Now the rest of the world is looking at The Nightmare on Helm Street, Big Rig, Wile E. Leino, and the Ab Buster, and saying "holy s***, they got a whole nother generation just waiting to take over from this 2nd generation already. WTF?!"

I'm luvin it. I wish the rest of my life was this good.

Go WIngs.

Good post except there's no need for the "or lose" part. They aren't losing. The last 13 tries to wrap a series up in 6 they're 12-1....they won't lose two in a row in that situation.

The first emotion I will have tonight when we win is joy. And then laughter when Marian skates around the Igloo with the Cup over his head. And then tears of joy when Pasha skates with it.

I'm sad that Andreas and Kopi couldn't have played, but at least their names will be on it and they will get to skate with it tonight.

Let's do it.

I'll first feel joy. Joy in this season and the bright future of the greatest organization in all of sports.

I'll probably get a little weepy when I see some of the older guys skate with it and certainly when they show Stevie Y. in the arena.

I know he hasn't done much this season on the ice but I would like to see McCarty out there and on the cup. He seems to have gone through a personal hell and come back as a mentor for the future.

Agreed x2.

I was just thinking this morning as I was listening to the radio pump up the city with Stanley Cup talk. A caller called in and stated that no matter what he does not think Oz is Hall of Fame level. I was angry, very angry. I begin to think what selfish, spoiled fans we have here in Detroit to talk about such things like this on the morning of a possible Stanley Cup Champion Victory. I am extremely grateful for the fact that I fell in love with this team and this sport above all else. Not one or two world class players but 5 or six. Or more. 11 cups in team history and 4 in the past 11 years with a possible 12th and 5th in the making. What a world we live in that some dueche bag has the audicity of copmplaining about the possibilty of the future of our goalie. I am thankful that so many TRUE fans, LOVING fans, THANKFUL and APPRECIATIVE fans grace this site everyday.

I have butterflies. I have goosebumps. I love the wings. Finish it!

I feel bad for Ozzie. He decated so much to this franchise and it's fans, and how we repay him is discusting. Of course this isn't every fan thinking this. In the end, all the people who say that detriot will be the same without him are in for a big suprise. I think losing Ozzie will be just as big of a hit as us losing Lidstrom...Gotta remember, a goalie brings much more than flashy saves (which imo shows that the goalie is out of postion to begin with, if ozzie isn't very flashy...goes to show you how positionally sound he is), not to mention the mental game thatOzzie, in my opinion, tops every other goalie out there. To me that Hall of fame right there.

Anyhoo, I belive the wings will win tonight.

GO WINGS!

Im having a hard time with the fact it could be the last time we see Hoss in the winged wheel.

 It's not. Seven year contract already agreed upon.... Last time we'll see Hudler, Sammy, Chelios, Conklin, Lebda, possibly Draper and Maltby, yes. That is the hard part. (except the Hudler part)

I don't believe it. I don't think Kenny will give up our depth for Hoss.

what makes everyone think we are losing Ozzie? Even after his contract, if he is healthy and motivated, why wouldn't he resign as the backup to (insert goalie here)? If he still has anything left in two years (which he probably will) who better to be a back-up than a 4 time (at least) Stanley Cup winner? I am willing to concede that he wo't resign to be the starter here, but why does he have to retire because we have a different #1?

Ozzie WILL get Conn Smythe, he WILL get #30 retired and he WILL get in the Hall. It is done...

I don't think we will be losing Ozzie next year, but I do think he's gonna retire very very soon. I'd say before 40. That's my opinion, though.

I don't think Ozzy is going anywhere for a couple years. I am more irratated with folks calling into radio stations saying Ozzy does not belong in the hall on the day he can win the Stanley Cup!

Who did I list that is considered depth? Hudler? you get a 1st and a 3rd round pick in exchange for him. The rest are VERY much replaceable. Are you referring to when the likes of Helm and Abdelkader and Ericsson are up for contract? Well, if they want to stay, they too will sign deals that have a smaller impact on the cap, just like Z and Dats and Franzen. By time Helm and Abdelkader are up, Holmstrom, Draper and Maltby will be gone FOR SURE. Stuart and Refalski will be near gone. The next contracts those three sign will not be the size of Any of our top players. Ericsson will probably sign on lke Stuart or Kronwall. Adbelkder and Helm will get about Hudler cash right now. Leino will probably get $1,000,000 next season. There is (with the three kids AND Howard) still $9.4 million available next year for Cap. If Hossa (as rumored) takes Franzen type cap hit, that still leaves roughly $4 million in space. Even if the Cap doesn't reflect the 4 Griffins, that still leaves $2 million for Leino and Kopecky or Sammy. Not even considering if Lija has to retire, if Ledba gets traded, if Draper and Maltby retire. The future is STILL bright even when Hossa signs...

(you got to remember too, Lids HUGE contract comes off the books after next year, he'll either retire or sign for less...)

This is a fear, but when you look at who we'd have to lose (Hudler, for example), it's not depth that's performing right now anyway. I've always been on Huds side, but it's hard to say he's been a crucial part of our depth this playoff run. Therefore, losing him doesn't make us any less "deep" as we can bring up one of the young guns.

Let's not forget that whoever we lose, we'll be gainign Ericcson and Helm, and possibly Leino.

Not next year, he is under contract until 2011/2012. Which will make him 39 years old when he lifts to Cup that year. If he feels good enough, come on back to be backup. He will probably already be the back-up by then anyhow. Why not take a couple hundred grand to watch and win a couple more Cups?

This is a great thread, and a great response. I couldn't agree more about how some of our "fans" have absolutely no perspective about what we've fallen into with the Red Wings. And nothing, I mean NOTHING drives me battier than these idiots who twist their good fortune and misuse it by whining, complaining and criticizing the team or individual players. Like we should or do have ANYTHING to say about it anyway!

Truth. For the cap hit, there's not a better goalie out there, period. Maybe even not factoring the cap hit. Yes, I know what his regular season this year was...but is there an active goalie you'd rather have in the playoffs?

We're damn spoiled to be fans of this team. I was just reading something from The Hockey News saying that we'll never be better than we are now because we'll either lose Hossa or a bunch of depth. Even with Ericsson, Abs and Helm being stories at different points of the playoffs and known to all, they STILL don't get it, do they?

Well, we are so old this is our last chance to win the Cup.

Right?
