Refs favor Crosby Malkin

I keep reading this "Whistle party" crap from Pens. The Pens were playing like a pack of thugs taking cheap shot after cheap shot. They deserved to be penalized. Pens fans make it out like the refs were picking on them or something. When you act like a goon, you get called. I would think playing the Flyers six times a year, you would know this already.

Oh boy... now Rangers fans showing up here to whine? Uh, I guess you missed Saturday Night's whistle party, when the Pens were called for about more penalties in one game than the Wings have been all series?

I was going to post on how stupid of a comment the bold part was but xtrememachine 1 said it perfectly:

You can make a good argument that the reffing has been bad for both teams, but the stupid play that resulted in all the game 5 penalties was obvious and makes any argument or comment that you make after it suspect.

To Pens fans, the game 5, Pens deserved many penalties. Crosby slashed Zetterberg, Kunitz interferred the Wings, Malkin elbowed Franzen, and so many others. It is so easy to get frustrated and I believe Pens fans know penalties were deserved.

Yesterday, I think the ref made some bad calls like the first penalty. However, I think the Pens played far better than the Wings in game 6. I am the one who think the NHL has the worst referee system in professional sports. Congrats to you guys win in game 6 and let's see in game 7.

Guess maybe you also missed the announcers talking about the goalie interference Detroit got away with at the end of the game? But I guess you had the sound off at that point.

Just like the Rangers only lose to the Pens because of the refs huh?

No this guy isn't biased now, is he?

Hey, believe in The Conspiracy if it makes you feel better -- but a blankey and a cup of warm cocoa will do the same.

Just a tip for ya.

Not surprised you're back spouting off again. You are the same guy that came in here earlier whining about the lucky bounces Detroit gets off the boards, etc... If you didn't notice there are boards behind both goals at the Joe. So don't come in here jumping on someone else because they bring up a few bad calls. I hate the whining and complaining more than anyone about the missed calls. They go both ways. On another note. You are welcome to come here and post. But why? I've hardly had time to post on this board as a Wings fan. I, for the life of me, can't see any reason why I would post on another teams board. I know, I know. "It's just great to talk hockey with fans of other teams." Blah, blah, blah. GO WINGS!!

Detroit Free Press disagrees with you..

http://www.freep.com/article/20090531/COL2...hout+their+best

Eat it and weep Freep..

Conspiracies suck balls.

Next?

So a newspaper reporter disagrees? Big whup. That proves nothing but a differing opinion from some reporter.

Malkin's instigator call was correct. The rule is in place to stop exactly what he did. His infraction was well after the whistle, after Ozzie had already been speared and guys had already come together in front of the net. Only then did he skate around and lock up with Zetterberg. Even here he would've been fine as long as it was merely some face washes and shoves but Malkin drops his gloves and starts swinging. Why? Be cause he knows the clock has run out and he won't serve a minute of any penalty coming. Clearly taking advantage of it being late in the game to take some free shots at our star player. Exactly what the rule was intended to stop. Hence the instigator. The only difference is he doesn't have 'Godard' on the back of his sweater. Good thing the rule is for "Any player" and not just repeat offenders. Malkin should've been suspended, the fact that he wasn't had nothing to do with the actual infraction and everything to do with the name on his jersey.

What if he got a good shot on Z and broke his jaw, knocking him out for the rest of the series? Would it have been ok for Malkin to play then? And what about how fast the league rescinded it? Could they be insinuating that their ref made a call so horrible that they had to immediately correct it before the broadcast was over? I thought refs don't make mistakes? Of course, no one's aloud to talk about that, something Quenville learned the hard way right?

But yes, the Freep disagrees, whoopty-freakin' doo.

Welcome Rangerfan and thanks for the good luck wishes.

Im also from NY and one of my bosses is a HUGE Ranger fan. He has been going on and on about the same exact subject the past two years. I honestly cant have a hockey conversation with him without Cindy or the Penguins being brought up.

I know the Pens get a lot of boarder line (at best) calls...but geez, Did they get away with murder against you guys? Or do ALL teams from the East share the same feelings about the Pens?

Oh well the bottom line is the Wings had 2 power plays for 4 out of 5 minutes midway through the 3rd period after they had just scored to make it 2-1 and had all the momentum and they failed to get the job done...The refs gave the Wings 2 power play chances after they made it 2-1 to tie the game and they didnt do it that's all there is too it pure and simple...

It would seem simple and dry cut wouldn't it? But as an unbiased observer here's what I noticed when I watched the game:

- Pens get 2 powerplays as the score is tied

- Det gets no penalties called their way as the score is tied

- Det FINALLY gets a couple of penalities called their way late in the game ONCE the Pens have the lead

......favoritism perhaps? Maybe yes, maybe no....but something sure doesn't seem right!....and no, I'm not talking about Tyler Kennedy's face.

How about whoopty-freakin doo to no instigator or suspension being levied for the Niedermayer/Datsyuk fight? I guess the league favors Datsyuk or Niedermayer. There's precedence here to easily refute, blow off, or laugh at, the assertion that the league f***ed up this call. They've called these off several times before, and it isn't shaming of the refs at all, instead, getting it right. It's you who's blowing the call up to be so horrible, blowing out of proportion the refs call being sooo horrible, and use such extreme nonsense about the refs not making mistakes. It's very well established you're way outside the realm of reason here.

Blowing out of proportion? Please man, everyone and their mother knew as soon as Malkin dropped his gloves he would not be serving any suspension for it. Malkin knew what he was doing and that he'd probably get away with it. But since there's no smoking gun of "evidence", it's all make-believe right? Have the refs been ******* up this playoffs? Yes. But those f***-ups never seem to hurt the Pens, only other teams. Coincidence?

I wonder if Malkin would've done the same had it been the end of the 1st or 2nd period?

I am surprised people still post on this thread. I agree with the group of referee call on favor of Penguins but that is not the major reason why we lost in game 6. Find the truth. The Wings deserved nothing from game 6 because they thought the series was over. Besides, there are some non-calls the Penguins do not get from the referee. I am mad when the ref does not call the obvious penalties. I also agree with Nidermayer and Malkin had to receive suspensions from the NHL but we all knew what would happen because the NHL wants to keep the stars in the game.

Let's forget everything and play perfect game on Friday

yes it a coincidence. if you believe the ENTIRE NHL OFFICIALS UNION AND NHL MANAGEMENT is involved in a group effort to make the Pens win......... then you my friend should take off your tin foil hat.

I have to agree with esteef. What he didn`t mention in his argument is that Malkin also swung his stick at Zetterberg twice at the start( the first was a good whack and the second went over Z`s head). That alone should have garnered more attention/additional penalties and is totally uncalled for. While I agree that Neidermeier may have deserved something as well, the Malkin/Z was more blatant with the stick swinging and how Malkin tracked him down. Malkin should have beensuspended for the 1 game and I would say the same thing had the roles been reversed and Z was the instigator.

Ah yes, typical naysayer reaction. The reality of the "conspiracy" is that it is probably less like a huge concerted effort to completely arrange the entire season/playoffs in favor of the Pens/Crosby and more like a few calls here and there at key times in games to give them that extra boost. I mean they don't need THAT much help, just a pick-me-up when they're in trouble is usually enough to keep them around.

But please, dazzle me some more with your clever argument style nametags.

I am a Ranger fan who deals with the Penguins all year. The Refs/NHL clearly favors the big name stars when it comes to calls. The same thing happens with Ovechkin and the Caps. The Wings got screwed last night on many calls. Goaltender interference was a joke in the 1st. The NBC announcers on 2 separate occasions last night stated that the Pens got away with interference calls. I hate to say it Wings Fans but you are not only battling the Pens but also the officials and the NHL who would like nothing more than to have the Crosby/Malkin Pens hoist the Cup. Good Luck and Go Wings

well said.

hal gill is the best player in the league at getting away with interference penalties! but i guess you can't have a guy in the box for 60 mins...

there is no difference sir......... and the nametag was meant with humor. you still maintain that the refs have agreed to give them a "pick-me-up" to keep them around??? otherwise known as a conspiracy

Logic behind refs ******* up? Yes. Does that help the Penguins on occasion? Yes. Does it help the Red Wings on occasion? Yes. Does it help or hurt ANY one team on occasion? Yes. Do we see these bitching topics about the refs and league when the Wings win? NO. Every time it's when they lose.

Logic behind the refs and league deliberately helping the Penguins win? None. And why would you need a smoking gun when the cameras were right on it? It was a scrum. Malkin and Zetterberg went at it. Zetterberg was in the scrum to start with, Malkin went to help out a teammate, they both started throwing punches. What's the instigator? Oh that's right, because Malkin is a Penguin and Zetterberg is a Red Wing.

What's funny is EVERY time these ridiculous conspiracy posts come up it's all upon the same premise that the refs suck. Just like in the 9/11 conspiracy s*** it's all because government sucks or is corrupt. Both of which are true, but the rationales used to try and back up the conspiracies is utter horse s*** and not reasonable. If you wanna ***** about how much the refs suck, you have an agreement by me. If you want to ***** about the refs or league making calls to deliberately help the Penguins win, you need more than suggesting it's because the refs stink. The Malkin thing is a horrible reason, as it's obvious he shouldn't have been given the instigator to begin with. The league has rescinded these several times before, and did it again. Big whoop.

Of course it's looked at more closely when a team loses, that's because a lot of times the s***ty calls helped the loss become possible. Just because people don't ***** about it when they win doesn't mean there weren't any bad calls against them.

2nd paragraph is your opinion on how it went down, and I disagree. It's a perfect example of a player taking advantage and then getting let off the hook.

Your utter dismissal of any and all things "conspiracy" or "favoritism" is silly. Especially when that NBA ref was busted doing exactly that. You don't think this type of thing happens in the NHL when it happened in a way more lucrative league such as the NBA? His testimony was very telling in that leagues could encourage manipulation of games (is that "evidence"?). I wonder if there were people like you telling NBA fans about how conspiracies and favoritism are bulls*** before that ref was busted?

What I "think" what bothers people here about the officiating is not that the wings have got called for penalties but when they call a penalty on the wings in certain situations when any number of penguins players have just committed the same infraction 4,5,6 times just before that. THAT is what kills everyone watching.

Playing the Devil`s advocate here, do you really think officials would just come out and say "Hey, we are gonna screw a team over with a call(s)." Of course they won`t. And to be honest, if you think boxing is the only sport that has it`s...let`s call it ethical problems, then you are not looking at how the human race really is. esteef was pointing out an example in what happened in basketball and because it didn`t suit you you, you shot it down. Point is, this type of problem can, and has, happened in every sport. And when some things are just obvious and make you go "hmmmmm", what do you expect? Like I said, playing devil`s advocate here. And of course you don`t hear about the refs when a team wins. No matter what happened, the team won.
