Snazzy 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Could Penguins win the cup if they had the injuries Red Wings have/had? I'm proud of the Wings, man. Despite being depleted, injured and hungover from the cup last year, they just kept coming! Ericsson had that surgery and was back in. Lidstrom had some major issues with his groins. Datsyuk with his bum foot. Lilja with a concussion. Kops with his fracture. Wow, this team is AMAZING to come this close. No other team could battle through what they did... Give credit where credit is due. The Detroit Red Wings is the best team in the NHL.

Snazzy 0 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 (edited) Probably not, but they won so move on. You really should give the Red Wings some damn credit... they are AWESOME for battling through the way they did. Zack is Great 14 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 If it was a healthy Wings team versus a healthy Pens team? Wings win it, no doubt. That being said, there are no if's. We lost, and we'll need to retool and come out next year.
FUUFNF 1 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Who gives a f***... They skated the cup on our ice... And now every douchnozzle wannabe Pens fan is coming out of the wood work... Can't wait to see all the Crosby commercials NEXT year when they're actually the defending champs... Man, I feel sick!

Firehawk 305 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 If I find out when the injuries come out that our top 5-6 players all had serious injuries, I'm going to turn my dislike for how we played in this series to proudness of the team, because if they were all as banged up as it sounds, then how can you not be proud of them for trying to come out with everything? I am very proud that they won the cup last year and were 2 goals from repeating as champions. That is awesome...and they almost repeated with half the team seriously injured. How can you not be proud of that?
Vincanni 1 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Could the Penguins win the Cup if..... the game was PLAYED IN SAND!!! Seriously guys, I know the Red Wings are an amazing team and this series as a whole is an upset, but they deserve the credit for finding a formula to beat us. ...but I agree with you. titanium2 867 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 You really should give the Red Wings some damn credit... they are AWESOME for battling through the way they did. You should be proud Sure. The Wings battled hard and managing the Stanley Cup hangover is one of the hardest things to do in this parity filled world. Is it so hard for you to give the Pens credit? They wanted it more and they took advantage of their opportunities.

Can't wait to see all the Crosby commercials NEXT year when they're actually the defending champs... Man, I feel sick! This is precisely how I feel. I personally watched the end just to see how our guys reacted to the Pens winning on OUR ICE. I would be embarassed as a Wing player for that to happen at home. We simply didn't bring it tonight; it wasn't there in game six either. We're a year overdue to bring in a player(s) truly hungry to win the Cup. f*** the money, the commercials, media bias thanks to Buttman. Someone who wants to win and recognizes its value as compared to owning a fleet of Bentleys.
Zack is Great 14 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 I don't think Wings should retool much. This team is amazing... I would say tweak some things, but not retool. I don't mean gut the team, and sign every UFA we can. Just get ourselves ready for the next run. No team is even close to being as competitive for as long as Detroit has been. We gotta keep it up, as hard as this loss was.

Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 Absolutely not, but parting of winning a cup is being healthy. The Wings were fortunate last year, not so much this year. Its all part of it.
Nightfall 871 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 (edited) In order to win the Stanley Cup, you have to be healthy and have luck on your side. Its apparent the Wings weren't as healthy as the Pens. Both sides seemed to get bounces here in there, but in Game 7 the bounces went the way of the Pens because of their hard work and hustle. That being said, if the Pens were injured like the Wings they would have had a harder time with it. Who knows if they would have won or not. No sense of asking "What if" because it never happened. Kinda like asking "What if Hossa signed with the Pens?" If he did, would the Pens be here celebrating now? Who knows what kind of chemistry they would have had. They wouldn't have made moves for veterans like Guerin or hard working players like Kunitz. Edited June 13, 2009 by Nightfall
Firehawk 305 Report post Posted June 13, 2009 i totally agree, wings were the best team this year. But, they made too many mistakes. You sound like a smart person, I'd like to meet you some day lol. How can we not look at the Wings in a positive manner (after getting the hurt and anger off our chests after tonight) at what they accomplished? They were one bad ref call away from winning the cup in 2007, then they come back and win the cup in 2008 without anyone ever really questioning if they were the better team in all the playoff series. Then they come back in 2009 with alot of half ass efforts at times but still manage to get to a game 7 stanley cup with alot of injured players (and key players). I mean, when you look at the entire picture, I'm pretty ******* proud. And, there's no reason they can't make it back here next year. They're set up so well to make long runs in the playoffs every year for the next 7 years.

Lidstrom will be 100%. The hunger to win will be back. I am looking forward to it. I am not looking forward to a long 3+ months with no hockey.

I am going to be very sad if/when Mike sells the team. This team is a dynasty for two reasons. Because Mike is at the helm and because of the great front office like Holland, Yzerman, and Babcock. All the coaching staff and front office people make success happen. Since 1995 I have been a big Wings fan. I have had the privilege of seeing 4 cups lifted in my time as a fan. I never want it to end.

My point is Wings are true competitors every year.... and for many more years to come. Pens got a few lucky bounces and calls / non-calls and were lucky enough to not face any dominating physical teams like the Ducks. Wings luck ran out. Wings are the best team in the NHL. Look at everything they went through... no other team could do what the Wings did.
