Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Just wondering where he stands? i thought he only signed a one year with new jersey, which makes him a free agent. I know alot of guys are bitter about the way he left, and i know hes not a two way forward in anyway, but the guy can score on a pretty reliable basis. Does anyone know what his contract was worth last year? Is there anyway he would take a 1-1.5 million contract to come back here? I know this wont be a popular thread for alot of people, but some people are talking about knuble and a few others, so i figured i would throw one of my favorite players names out there. Maybe i just want to hear the irish jig song again back in detroit. I dunno, but what do you guys think honestly? Please dont tear me apart.... haha
xBrave_Heartx 0 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 I think he is way to slow now. He'd be a 3rd/4th line player on our roster, and he's too slow to be a 4th liner, We need players that can create energy and play a good team game. Shanny isn't exactly a shinning example of hard work. If i remember right he and babcock clashed before also. I loved Shanny when he was a wing, But i think the game has past him by. Yeah i wasnt suggesting he would be a 1st or 2nd liner or anything, i just thought he would be a good 3rd or 4th liner that could chip in points and play on the PP for cheap. I dunno, maybe i just miss him and how i loved him in a wings uniform

Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 1, 2009 Argh. Same old BS---just like when you vehemently argued in favor of trading Samuelsson for Lapointe during the '07 offseason. That would have worked out great, wouldn't it have? Enough support for nostalgia signings. This is not ten years ago. Deal with it. And yes, there already was a thread about this. The OP had the balls to claim that Shanahan was great defensively and could play on the PK.
Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 He's older and slower than when we had him, and has always been something of a defensive liability. There was also a great deal of talk about him and Babcock not getting along because of his tendency to only play on one side of the puck, so even if the Wings do want him (which we don't) Shanny probably won't want to return if Babs is still behind the bench. Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted July 1, 2009 shanny can't keep up anymore. the wings would be better off bringing the hall of fame yzerman out of retirement after a few years of rest to throw on the equipment. he'd play better and bring more to the table than any guy the wings can afford.....not gonna happen. sign leino and bring up abby. give huds 2mil/year. the wings can't do better than that at this point in time with the cap strangling them.
