Trade for Laraque!

I'll pass. Georges is pricey, getting older, and slow.

last year of his contract... what would we lose? if it doesn't work, don't bring him back... and he's no slower than any other tough guy in the league... faster than most as a matter of fact

Consider yourself officially FLAMED!

eh... I know it's probably not the best move for the team... I've just always wanted this guy in a Wings uni... can't blame me for wanting to see one of my favorite players on my team...

Laperiere at $1.1m would have been a huge and more effective upgrade over Laraque at $1.5m.

that's a moot point.

Colton Orr would have made a nice addition as well IMHO, but thats another moot point. I will continue to defer to Kenny's judgement however.

Laraque is a joke!

If he isn't out with a Groin Injury, Then he's doing nothing worthwhile. He's a great fighter dont get me wrong, But he is also a horrible enforcer. You need that killer instinct you need to want to protect your teammates. Laraque views being an enforcer as a job. He's what alot of people here on this site hate.. off the face off.. want to drop the mitts type of guy.. not a heat of the moment, where it needs to happen type guy..

I'd take a washed up McCarty over Laraque.

If what people are saying about Laraque is true, wouldn't he at least have potential?

We've established that he has class, and is no "Avery".

That being the case, don't you think a coach could instruct him on when to fight, without having to worry about him taking stupid penalties by making the decision (poorly) on his own?

I haven't watched Laraque play a great deal, but from what I've heard here, he may not be your typical enforcer, but he contains all the necessary ingredients to be "enforcer putty" for Babcock to properly mold.

9 majors last year and steadily had 15-30 points a year from 00-07 on 4th lines... also is a career +7.. ALSO on 4th lines...

I don't know, I think he'd have a breakout year here, like 30pts, a steady 8-10 minutes a night...

Why did you conveniently leave out the last three seasons? Probably because his point output, which you cite as substantiated, in those last three seasons were the equivalent of half a season to a full season in those years you cite (this is also why I am extremely skeptical of people using stats solely as their basis for any argument -- conveniently [ab]using it for an agenda). And somehow this justifies taking up a roster spot and valuable money in very little capspace left just because he occasionally drops the gloves?

I can understand you're a Georges slappy, but holy s*** is this ever an amazingly horrible idea.

Laraque is about the opposite of "enforcer putty" and often gets benched because of it.

He is simply too nice of a guy on the ice.

Laraque trying to define himself as a skater gets him about as far as Hudler would trying to define himself as an enforcer.

he's only 2 years removed from a 24 pts season, which I also already posted... I'd take him over most others and once again - ONLY ONE YEAR LEFT ON THE DEAL - We can cut ties in 2010 if it doesn't work... see a few posts above too - I said:

wtf is up with people replying before reading all the way through...

agree to disagree.

I think he would do WHATEVER Babcock asked of him and that's all you can ask from a player... we don't need a goon, we need a player that fits our mold.

I think we need a good banger as much as a fighter to pair up with Helm. Having Helm hit consistently as much as he did during the playoffs wouldn't last long. With his size, its only a matter of time before he would get hurt, and then his speed would go to waste. Pair him up with a strong 2nd forechecker to crush the guy receiving the 1st pass and throw down when necessary. Laraque ain't that guy. We need a hungry young guy.

Well if the salary is being taken up why should the team wait through the entire season? I'm sure Wings management know what they'd get with Laraque as he isn't the type of player to pull a surprise season out of his hat and score 10-20 goals all of a sudden. I probably would have seen the logic of him coming to the Wings years back, but certainly not now.

I'd be all for Artyukhin in TB... they only have 4 d-men signed too... maybe Ledba and a prospect would get him here?

The reason I say Laraque in the first place, is his personality and how the city would just be drawn to him...

My hate for Laraque is huge, but if he became a wing. I'd give him my undivided attention. I wouldn't mind him, but i think we could get a better enforcer for league minimum, and we wouldn't have to deal with the Media attention that laraque gets or his Glass Groin.

Artyukhin would be solid, But he wouldn't be our answer to our enforcer woes.. He'd give our 3rd line some juice though, He's a hitter for sure.. He can destroy people. Helm and Arty. throw in Cleary. You've got yourself quite a fearsome 3rd line.. I'd rather go the Moen route though.

Moen - Helm - Cleary, North American.. 3 Grinders.. Man.
