Oh god. Arron Asham is an UFA again. Half of this board is going to have kittens.

20 points, physical presence, 19 fights and one of the best pound for pound fighters in the league @ 640,000/year.... why wouldn't everyone want him on their team???

Arron Asham, egh, don't care either way.

Looks like we could definately upgrade an already spectacular blue line next summer with all those names out there. Don't really see and big names forwards that fit the Wings system.

Nothing all that interesting to me, there are some players I would want but we likely won't be able to afford them, we have over ten million in contracts coming off the books but the cap is expected to drop at least 5million which give us 5 or 6 million in cap space, we have to replace our missing contracts which includes Lidstrom, lets say Lidstrom takes 3 million and we replace homer, Maltby, Lilija, and Lebda with similarly priced contracts (not saying same players just equal money) that's another 4 or 5 million we are already over the cap.

Make no mistake we will be in a better cap situation after next season but we won't be shopping for a high priced forward or defenseman, we'll just be plugging the holes by either resigning our UFA's of shopping for budget replacements, the only wildcard would be if Lidstrom decides to retire, then I think we would go after the best available replacement and make a trade if necessary to fit the salary in.

Wow. There are some big time names on that list. And Kenny is going to have money to spend next summer. :D

Not a terribly large amount. You've got around $41 million committed to 13 players. That's approx. $10-12 million to spend on 9-10 spots, assuming the cap drops to the $50-53 million range.

Guest Hatethedrake!

Man, how great would it be to have Kovalchuk on the Wings? Likely not going to happen but I can only imagine him riding shotgun on Datsyuk's wing. WOW.

No getting around it Kovalchuk and Frolov will be very wealthy by this time next year... Man to be a UFA and just at the prime of your career... And almost everyone else of note is over 35...

I bet a few guys like Hejduk get re-signed before the end of the season...

And the other side of the coin I see 4 or 5 goalies that will be taking some huge paycuts next year... Except Luongo I do not see many of those guys coming close to their previous contracts...

What about ethan moreau? If Lidstrom does retire when his contract is up we could maybe use some leadership and moreau is a great leader. Also he can play and be abrasive like so many people here including myself would love on this team

Moreau is a heart and soul guy but the only knock I have on him is his propensity to be injured all the time. If he could stay healthy, I'd love to have play for the Wings.

I don't even want to think about Lidstrom retiring after this season.

Man, I though Luongo already resigned. I bet he does before UFA.

Yeah, this is very sad, but true.

It seems the Red Wings have their superstars locked up for a long time, and I don't see any more superstars going our team for some time. <_<

Its going to be a very very sad day when it finally happens...

I just hope its not going to be for a few more years. Just wont be the same without him.

Not yet. xm radio has been saying for a few months now, that both sides are talking. And Vancouver will do everything in their power in re-signing him. They made a big deal about him getting signed soon and doing the draft pick for the team, like we saw.

In all honesty, imo, I believe he is grossly overated.

Yeah, you're right Miller. I remember hearing that also. They have been VERY close to a long-term deal for sometime now.

Wait, is Philly paying Mike Rathje 3.5 million next year? If so, that's hilarious, i wasn't aware he was still playing.

Rathje has been on LTIR for a while. He doesn't count against the cap.
