NomadFromKazoo 42 Report post Posted July 16, 2009 So back to your "balanced" points. there's a strong chance we're going to lose all our FA's, not just Hossa. Many scoffed at the notion Well, the scoffers were right and you were wrong. We re-signed Zetterberg AND Franzen for the rest of their meaningful careers. Our losses were all minor compared to that except Hossa, who was always a long shot to repeat. 88 goals, 118 assists, and 206 points Now, if you really want to see how ugly that is, check this out.... http://www.nhl.com/ice/teamstats.htm?fetch...ewName=goalsFor Subtract 88 goals and we edge out the Rangers by a goal for 28th place in goals scored If you want to know how NOT in trouble we are, run the same stats over the playoffs and especially in the finals where we went to game 7 of the SCF finals with Kopecky completely gone and Huds and Hossa might as well have been. You will find the "balanced" answer to your question in that on why we're not actually in trouble. And wow, did Holland have a spectacular long term season for us in signing up players to long term contracts where as the economy recovers and the cap goes up the core of our player's cap hit won't. gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted July 27, 2009 I was reminded of my little thread after reading Jimmy D's comments. "I think the salary cap has finally caught up to my hockey team, the Detroit Red Wings," Devellano said. "Up front, we've lost 82 goals, between Samuelsson, Hudler and Hossa. ... There aren't many teams that can afford that, us included, so we're a little bit, um, concerned, to put it mildly." http://www.freep.com/article/20090724/SPOR...up-to-Red-Wings

Not good when Jimmy D is saying these types of things. Tongue-in-cheek; one can hope.
rage 24 Report post Posted July 27, 2009 No doubt...Maybe it's time the Wings work more on their defensive game. You know F.Michael, that was one thing I thought of right away too. If we are losing so much upfront, there needs to be a performance increase from the back-end. With our top 6, we should be way better than last year. Consider last year an off-year (:crosses fingers:).
