titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 15, 2009 I'd like to see Mursak have a rebound year. The guy has a boat load of talent, he just couldn't seem to put it together in the AHL. True, but not for a lack of trying from what I remember. He put on a little too much weight than he can handle. I expect a good year from him.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 15, 2009 They say Emmerton is a top-six player but unless his skating has gotten better then he looks to be the next Jiri Hudler third liner. Eh, he doesnt have Hudlers skill, but he has much more hustle. He's decently physical, and he was a good scorer in the OHL, with some better ice time this year I'd bet his numbers will go up. I really like Cory, I'd love to see he and Pyett do well next year and contend for spots the year after in Detroit. (Yeah, I love all the former CHL players we have, I said Darren Helm would be an effective 3rd line center back when he was playing in the World Juniors, so I hope it works the same for these two!) No where near Hudler's skill. People here seem not to understand how skilled Hudler is. He put 57 points up in the NHL as a 25 year old midget based 100% on skill. He was a scoring monster in the AHL. We don't really have another prospect in the system that's shown that level of skill on the professional level.

Agreed. Not all players should bulk up quickly. Remember when Zetterberg and Datsyuk did that one summer only to shed it through the year and get better as they did? I think it was the 06-07 season? I should've said similar type of role in that he'll barely be a borderline top-6 player on the Wings. I didn't mean to insult Hudler's skill with that comment. My bad. One of the few things I agree with Eva on is that I thought Hudler was without a doubt the 2nd best on the team when it came to threading the needle. Do I imagine Emmerton playing on the Wings one day? Yes. Do I imagine him ever cracking the top-6? Not without injuries. Do I think he'll ever play the power play? Not without injuries. He's got some good skill and from what I remember he gets a lot of his assists off low shots that lead to rebounds. Oh, and like Babcock, do I like to answer my own questions? Damn right. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted July 15, 2009 I still say Mursak is a superior prospect than Emmerton. He does need a big season though.
titanium2 867 Report post Posted July 15, 2009 Jan Mursak D+ Mursak recreated himself in the second half to become a hustling, energy winger who was not afraid to hit, despite his small stature. After adapting his game, he even had some modest offensive success, scoring 6 points in 20 games and firing 53 shots on goal in that span. His strong play down the stretch even helped him get some playing time in the playoffs. Mursak is another young player that should be ready to have a better start next season after working through a difficult freshman year.
