Wings' interested in Sundin, Niedermeyer, Williams

Ecklund is reporting that Mats Sundin is holding out until the Hudler situation is resolved with the possibility of him coming to Detroit. He is also reporting that, and he is not the only one, Jason Williams could return to Detroit. Lastly, Eklund says that the Red Wings have also inquired about Rob Niedermeyer.

No matter who the Wings sign, they will likely wait until after Thursday when they will know the outcome of the Jiri Hudler situation.

I know a lot of ppl may not agree with me on this but I really wouldn't mind seeing the Wings snag Sundin (hopefully for like $2M) and even sign Shanahan at 500k. Once they move a defensemen whatever they need to to shore up the cap I think that would round out their lineup really well. That being said there are other good options available. Im just not buying into the Mike Grier, Jason Williams and Blair Betts hype. Im not entirely sure why though.

I agree with you 100%. I said before Hossa left, it would be great to have Sundin for a discount because he would really fit in well with the Wings for a year. Using that little bit of money to sign Grier, Williams or Betts would be a waste. We lost 82 goals (Hossa, Hudler and Sammy) and have only signed Ville Leino to replace them. If even Leino scores 20 and Z scores 10 more than he did last year and Franzen scores an additional 10, we're still 42 goals down from last year. We need an extra scorer and Sundin would be ideal.

I agree. I just dont see the use of signing another grinder when you can fill that gap by getting more games in for Abdelkader. I would much rather see Sundin signed and have him float between the second and third line while dropping Cleary to the 3rd more often than not and making use of Meech up front from time to time and Abdelkader fro mGR from time to time. But hey, that's just me.
