mmamolo 287 Report post Posted August 13, 2009 It's just about consistency in prospect development that gives the fans confidence. For instance Abdelkader and Helm for the most part have always taken steps forward in their development and not many, if any at all, steps back. With guys like Jimmy and even Jakub Kindl, they always seem to take steps forward but then then sudden steps back. It doesn't mean that they're worthless. It just causes us to question their mental ability. At the same time the standard of development is different for goaltenders and defensemen. But we see guys like Abdelkader and Helm and we expect the same from everyone else. So are you saying that McCollum has only taken steps forward or are you saying that Larsson has taken steps backwards? I see what you're saying and I agree with you. Im jsut not sure why ppl dont mention Larsson more often.

I see what you're saying and I agree with you. Im jsut not sure why ppl dont mention Larsson more often. I didn't mean to say either took a step backwards. I was just referring to Howard's lack of consistency. But as a real answer to your question, neither Tom or Daniel have taken any steps backwards. People mention McCollum more because he has the OHL stats, he's bigger, a first round draft pick, and North American. He just has a better flare I suppose. Me, I like Larsson, mostly because he seems like a really smart goalie. Zetterberg raved about him after last year's camp and suggested that he would take Howard's spot. Who knows? He might still be right.

I remember Zetterberg raving about Larsson last year and if Im not mistaken Larsson outplayed Howard for the bulk of the season (or at least the first half of the season) in GR. Obviously Howard has earned his chance with his seniority over Larsson and at the end of the day his numbers were better. Plus, Howard is out of AHL options and we'd lose him on waivers if we tried to send him down. Obviously Howard gets the shot today. But with Larsson already having played one season in GR he will soon be out of AHL options before McCollum. I have to imagine that Larsson is next in line, ahead of McCollum.
