Guest ToMaToToWnWinGsFaN_24 Report post Posted October 27, 2009 hey everyone i just though id share a story with you all as it has a somewhat connection to tomorrows game against the canucks....and if this is posted in the wrong forum...i deeply apologize.... im sure everyone has shared their stories here about how they first got their red wings jersey..but this one has some significance as it has to do with tomorrows game against the canucks... so here we go...i got my first red wings jersey was when i was 9 for christmas.. in a way its like that famous canadian novel/short film " the hockey sweater" . cause at the time my family was living in vancouver and everyone in my family was a canucks fan and i was the only red wings fan...so when i got my new jersey i immediately put it on, laced up my skates, and went to the local outdoor ice rink that was behind our backyard and much to my shagrin every kid looked at me very strangely as everyone else was wearing canucks jerseys and i was the only one wearing the wings jersey. so i asked if i could play but everyone shut me out and ridiculed me. they taunted , laughed , and pointed at me. i never felt so sad in all my life. and believe me this struck me hard. so i left. all heartbroken and bawling my eyes out but its funny how time passes and situations like that end up positive...seeing as how i now reside in ontario... last winter i went back to vancouver to visit some old friends.so i brought my wings jersey ( believe it or not it still fits me! ) and i happen to have my skates with me..so i thought one day id go to that same rink and go for a skate... i was skeptical about it at first ..cause sure enough there was a group playing hockey..but i figured since im all grown up now..theres nothing to fear. so i went . and at that moment i felt like that it yesterday that i was a 9 year old boy in this situation. cause again i was the only one not wearing a canucks jersey.so i skated around for a little. and as i was taking a break someone approached me ..and here i am thinking "oh boy here we go again...get ready to be insulted and made fun of again" but sure enough...instead of being insulted, taunted, ridiculed, and pointed at...he asked me very kindly if i wanted to join in. so of course i said yes but i had no stick! but they happen to have an extra one. so i played with them! and had lots of fun forever ridding that terrible moment that happened when i was a child! anyways..i just thought id share that story with everyone here as we prep for tomorrows game against vancouver. i hope everyone has a splendid evening and hopefully see you all here tomorrow night! LGW!!

Hack & Whack Rule! 160 Report post Posted October 27, 2009 Well you should feel like one of the gang in Leamington. I grew up in Harrow, about a half hour west of Leamington, and there were lots of Wings fans there, although I haven't been there for about 14 years, and maybe I was just deluding myself. There were lots of Leafs fans, of course, but I seem to remember a lot of Wings jerseys. I used to work in Leamington too, btw.
