Pucks 66 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 This is the kind of post that if I were a mod (and yeah I agree, it's a good thing I'm not.) I would be tempted to bar this poster for a looong time. Worse than an old woman gossip with the vicious, hurtful rumors and bulls***. Chris has been battling a problem in a very private manor. I doubt he or his family reads here but I'm not going to post about it. Glad he got the shutout. Glad we got the win. Looking forward to the next game. Electrophile 3,554 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Some supposed insider from another forum said Management had a closed door meeting with Chris to let him know they weren't going to go through it again this season. Also to make sure he hadn't fallen off the wagon again. It looks like ti had the proper effect. Supposed insider? You know what that means? "I'm lying through my asscheeks." Don't spread that crap around here. Glad to see we won, let's keep this train rolling.

Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 I missed the entire game so I need a 5 minute recap including the strong points, weak points, players of note, and such. Thanks in advance. Datsyuk was the best player on the ice, had two assists. The first was a cheap one, he lost the face-off but must have made contact as the puck trickled to Zetterberg who nailed a shot that beat Thomas. The second goal came about 2 minutes later, Bertuzzi patiently collected the puck at the blue line and made a nice pass to a surging Datsyuk who juggled the puck and looked set to shoot but did a nice little drop pass to Holmstrom who did very well to get a shoot off while being surrounded by a few Bruins. Gem of a goal, great teamwork. Lidstrom was great, Stuart very effective also. Meech I thought looked surprisingly good but only played about 10 minutes. Janik was good too and got into good positions, took care of forwards at the crease and made good decisions. Helm, Draper and Eaves looked great on the 3rd line and were flying. On the negative side, Leino was pretty average. Got smoked by a huge hit along the boards in the 1st and just couldn't get much happening all night. Improved as the gamw wore on but still a far cry from the player we saw last season. Jason Williams was the worst Wing on the ice, turned the puck over a few times, took an interference penalty while we were on the PP. Seemed like whenever he did something good he followed it up by something poor. And lastly, Osgood was terrific, especially in the 1st. We played tight defence, good puck control and generally crisp passing. Good solid showing.

And its nice to see the Wings shining in adversity and getting the team back on track. It sounds like work still needs to be done to get to what fans expect, but a shutout is definitely a step in the right direction.

It sounds like work still needs to be done to get to what fans expect, but a shutout is definitely a step in the right direction. I thought the Wings played well and are officially back on track. Ozzie actually had to make saves and he did come up huge. Our big guns were firing (and scoring) and everyone played well defensively. I have a good feeling about this season again, though I'm pretty depressed about how Leino is developing. This season is going to be a crazy one. So far, Leino, the most heralded of the new guys, is a total disappointment, and Eaves, the guy who really didn't look like he'd play at all this season is making a strong case for a permanent spot. The Mule 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Notes: + The Red Wings notched their second straight win, improving to 6-4-3 with the victory. + Osgood was fantastic, turning away all 29 shots he faced for his 50th career shutout. + The team's strong penalty kill as of late remained in tact killing all 4 opportunities. + Tomas Holmstrom hit the back of the net again for his team-leading 8th goal. + Defenseman Doug Janik recorded 13:56 of ice-time in his Red Wings debut. WpgMikos 17 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 (edited) Just walked in from the game. Atmosphere at the Joe was really good. Great crowd, full house. Lidstrom's intelligence on the ice is just a joy to watch. Kronwall hits anything that moves. Datsyuk is sick with the puck. Helm's speed is very noticeable. Draper can still wheel. Osgood was very good. (also lucky). Bertuzzi played a pretty good game. Zetterberg was solid as per usual. Really solid effort. PK was excellent. They were shooting a commerical during the 1st period for the NHL. Gave everyone Green Hockeytown posters which said No Limits (will post a video in a bit). Really fun game. WpgMikos 17 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 One more thing; where the hell was Boston tonight? I realize they have some injuries but still. As a team they played alright and in the end I think they outshot the Wings but with the exception of Chara and Thomas most of the team wasn't really noticeable. I didn't even realize that Recchi was playing until the 3rd. Sturm seemed like a non-factor.

I didn't even realize that Recchi was playing until the 3rd. Sturm seemed like a non-factor. At this point in their careers, Sturm and Recchi aren't exactly game-breakers. If you ask me, they're much more effective when they're designated as secondary scorers, as opposed to being relied on as top-flight players. Tonight was a prime example of just how valuable Savard and Lucic are to the Bruins' squad.

ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 Seemed like a very defensive game, not a huge amount of scoring chances. I also think the bounces went in our favor; but it certainly helped with Ozzie playing his best game of the season. Ozzy looked great, Lebda looked great, so did Datsyuk and Z. Boston hasn't scored in their last two games, it's hard on your confidence when you watch the puck slide across the crease but never cross the line. I'm betting it's going to be a coach thing right now, line changes day off, I dunno.

Esquire 324 Report post Posted November 4, 2009 BIRTHDAY GAME!!!!! All you can eat wing night and the local wing spot + Wings game + beers = Great Birthday!!! Wings 4 (Dats, Bert, Helm, Homer) Bruins 1 (Lebda) GO WINGS GO!!! It's your birthday? Mine too! There's no way we can lose now. Apparently not!!! Such a great game last night too. The "Afterburner" line was outstanding and I thought that their speed simply could not be contained and it appeared that they logged a good deal of ice time as well. The best part of last night was that I watched the game on a single tv in a bar packed with Leaf fans watching their game on the rest of the 15 tv's in the bar. So I ate all you can eat wings, drank beer, watched our Wings handle a defending conference champion, and watched the Leafs lose yet again. Life. Is. Good.
