stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) I wonder if we could sign that Brett Lebda kid. He's a 2010 FA with the Wings. I heard he can skate like the wind! haha I don't care how we get rid of him at this point, as long as I don't have to watch his horrendous play any longer... On a serious note, out of that entire list there are a few I would LOVE to see in the Winged wheel, but can't see feasibly happening (Kovalchuk, Semin) and a couple I would be ok with... not that it would happen, but how nice would this look - Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.500m) Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Alex Semin ($5.500m) Ville Leino ($0.800m) / Darren Helm ($1.200m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.900m) / Kris Draper ($1.583m) / Brad May ($0.500m) Drew Miller ($0.525m) Nicklas Lidstrom ($4.450m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($0.900m) Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) / Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) Brad Stuart ($3.750m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) Derek Meech ($0.600m) Chris Osgood ($1.417m) Jimmy Howard ($0.717m) ROSTER: 22; PAYROLL: $56.763m; CAP ROOM: $0.037m BONUSES: $0.000m made at capgeek.com Edited December 1, 2009 by stevkrause
Z Winged Dangler 2,082 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Paul Kariya makes $6,000,000 a year!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW! Out of that list the best player that I'd go after not named Kovalchuk would be Scott Niedermayer hands down. Imagine that Defense.... Lidstrom Niedermayer Kronwall Rafi Stuart ??? LIlja?? i'd take a much younger willie mitchell that neids. he's on the list, but the canucks most likely will resign him pretty quick if they havn't already. this would be pretty badass though...: lidstrom - mitchell kronwall - rafalski stuart - ericsson that's ******* nasty! offense and defense on each line, and alot of punishing checks. not sure at this point where lilja stands. NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 4 years, 4 mil per. That would be nice. Then all we have to do is wait out Ballsuckski's terrible contract. If Lids signs a 4-year deal the Wings will be on the hook cap-wise for his entire contract if he were to retire before its up. It'll be one year deals from here on out, unless he's 100% certain he'll play another two seasons. I just don't see him doing that though.
newfy 695 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Andy Sutton, Anton Volchenkov, or JayMcKee. To replace Lilja and help on D. And if Brad May leaves. Get Wade Belak or if we are out of options for a fighter Boogard but I'd prefer Belak. Really , you would take Belak over the Boogieman? Belak's a great fighter but Boogard is arguably the best in the league and can skate well enough to throw a check. If we could get Boogard it would be like having this era's Porbert... that would be awesome

Why should the Red Wings even attend the NHL draft each year if they're going to let Brad May and Tomas Holmstrom chew up playing time that could be going to younger, better players? Brad May doesn't chew up ice time for younger players. He plays a 4th line role, the younger players are better off in Grand Rapids playing big minutes. And nayways none of those youngsters can fill the role May plays for this team.

Datsasuk 2 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Not a big fan of Jokinen, he hasn't been consistent the last few years. Kariya's been going down hill, but i could see him putting up points with Detroit. Plus, its team where Kariya can doesn't have to be a top dog, a roles which he seems to dislike taking. Anyone about to suggest Kovalchuck....................not gonna happen. The Wings don't have the cap space and he won't hit FA anyways. I'm pretty sure Atlanta is going to retain Kovalchuk, but I also wouldn't be surprised if he walks and tests free agency. NO WAY the Wings sign him though. Tied for 1st on the team with 10 goals. Save the hate for when he inevitably slows down as his body wears out over the course of a full season. If you pray enough he might end up with a crappy goal total. Right now you don't have a leg to stand on. The only way we'd get him is if we overpay. Also note that he'll be a RFA so that overpayment comes with draftpicks. Edit: spelling (again!) Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted December 1, 2009 Lidstrom Niedermayer Kronwall Rafi Stuart Ericcsson Thanks EZBAKE Not sure on the NJ playing days........ While that's a sexy D Neidermayer isn't much younger than Lidstrom so it seems like a terribly short term fix for the eventual Lidstrom retirement. When Lidstrom retires I expect the Wings to go out and try and pick up a big name d-man to take up the minutes (depending on when this is-- Kronwall might make another leap up to become a legit top 5 d-man in this league, also Ericsson will likely be a #2 or #3 d-man by the time Lids retires). newfy 695 Report post Posted December 2, 2009 Leading the league in playing with awesome players, as well. Leading the forum in stupid posts that add nothing to what we're talking about. May isn't a punching bag, I would like to see you do what he does night in and night out. Homer might be a choppy skater but he has a nose for the net and finds ways to put it in. He pays the price for his goals and doesn't just score because he's a pretty goalscorer. He's what hockey is all about.

Holmstrom plays with a top 5 center (in all the NHL) at all times and gets 1st unit PP time. Do you expect him not to score goals? I expect the guy in his position to put up 40+ goals a season.
