Ovie's Take on His Suspension

Oh please, "It's just going to get me more angry". What a childish thing to say. He broke a rule, and he is not sympathetic at all. He doesn't care about his image, and he doesn't care about the fellow player. The complete refusal to accept blame is void.

I'm not happy about that exchange at all. Hopefully he comes out with a better statement and they caught him off guard.

People complain that Crosby is boring in interviews (fair enough) and whiny (e.g. they threw hats on the ice when Ovechkin got a hat-trick, what he did was nothing special etc.), but I find Ovechkin just as bad. Part of it may be that he hardly speaks English, but seems unwilling to admit that what he did was wrong (and it's something that he has done before to). He seems pretty dumb too - he refuses to discuss the death of his brother who died in a car accident, but that same interview he talks about how he loves speeding and messing around with cars. I'm not a fan of Crosby's personality, but I certainly don't like Ovechkin's either.

hmmm you mentioned crosby in a thread about ovechkin. thread should be derailed and turned into a flame fest before the end of page 2

anyway, i love ovechkin and his off ice personality and thinks he's really entertaing. if someone compiled all his interviews and off ice incidents and make a highlight pack of it it would be hilarious dont you think?

if ovechkin agrees to do an interview and during it gets a really private question which he do not want to answer, he is dumb? how can you blame him that he do not want to talk about the death of his brother with a camera and mic shoved in his face?

regarding the knee on knee incident...... i think he has gotten a bit defensive about all this, think about it: all of a sudden his play gets critized from everybody and everywhere. this is a 60 goal scorer and one of the best player in the world since he entered the league and he knows it. imagine if you were the best player in the world and got a bit too hot and were involved in a couple of incidents like this. now all of a sudden your girl friend and her cousin is going to tell you what to change in your game. how would you react? would you get a bit defensive? i know i would!

just sayin..

I agree about not talking about his brother. That's a personal choice.

But he needs need to learn that nothing is entertaining or hilarious about injuries and suspensions. To say "It's only going to make me more angry", is a horrendous thing to say when you want to become a ambassador to the game. Young kids are going to take his side and start think "well if Ovechkin can play recklessly I can too"

I love his pointless exploits on the golf course, or even to an extent his innocent driving habits.

He shouldn't be getting defensive, he broke a rule. He needs to realize that he is more important than a vessel to ***** and complain about a suspension that in the long wrong is going to be helping him. He needs to be on the ice scoring goals and hitting legally. Not nursing his knee after a stupid decision to try and finish a open ice hit in November. There is a fine line between playing hard, and playing recklessly. He has been toying with it for awhile now. And instead of getting mad about it maybe he should be like every other human and take the punishment and learn from it.

I'm not going to talk about Crosby, although some of the double standards I'm seeing is pretty alarming. Let's just talk about Ovechkin.

That was a childish thing to say by Ovechkin and I wish he would have handled it more professional but you have to give him some slack also and not read too much into it. Everybody say stupid things sometimes, especially a 24 year old kid. He will probably learn and mature and become more "robot" to the media. He is allowed to make a few mistakes and say a few stupid things while he develops dont you think? I just don't think this is a big deal. Maybe I'm too biased when it comes to ovechkin..

Agreed. I can understand being disappointed or disagreeing, but the "only make me more angry" is a stupid thing to say.

As I alluded to in another thread, I pretty much have a double standard when it comes to Ovie. He whines, he's taken a few dives, and done some other immature things in his hockey career (I don't really care about his personal life), but I let them go because he's just so much fun to watch and has such a passion for the game.

But it's getting harder and harder with each stupid thing he does.

I agree with pretty much everything posted here. The death of his brother is nobody's freakin' business, because I'm pretty sure it has absolutely no bearing on the sport of hockey, or how AO plays it. I think it caught him off guard so much because he has done this same thing before...a few times...and not been called for it.

The most ridiculous part of the interview to me was the last statement, where he flat-out said "I'm not going to change the way I play the game." This is same thing I was referring to in the initial Ovie thread about the hit. The guy shows zero respect for his fellow competitor, which absolutely disgusts me.

Carman and HS, I couldn't agree more with your posts as well. Ovie is one of the most entertaining players to watch in the game today. His skill level and passion are second to none, but his stupidity and carelessness drop him down a major peg.

Was I asleep when he said he wanted to become and ambassador for the game? And to be honest, you have to be reckless to play hockey from the get go. It's a dangerous sport. At any given time you could take a puck to the face, get any number of bones broken from a hit, get cut from a blade, get in a fight, blah blah.

I best most of you guys said some stupid things when you were 24. Or maybe not, maybe Jesus wasn't the only perfect person.

Reckless and careless are two very different things.
