Hudler?

Then why aren't there more players going over there? Surely Hudler isn't the only player in the league that would be making less money then he probably deserves?

I wouldn't have. I'd be perfectly happy playing for one of the best organizations in all of sports.

Cannot wait until Hudler comes back over so we can start getting those draft picks in the organization so we can use all our resources into developing them much like we did Hudler. Hopefully they don't carry the same attitude about hockey as Hudler though.

cause not all all players get offered the money, some do... players aren't declining massive contracts just to stay in North America...

I really don't understand the big deal over this - he was a third-liner for Detroit, ultimately - it's not like he was the captain. Players leave Detroit via free agency all the time, and I did not see half as much venom directed at players like Schneider for going to the f'n Ducks of all places. Hudler could have opened himself up to offer sheets, and he didn't. He could be playing in Columbus right now... instead he is in another league and ensured he was signed to a reasonable amount when he comes. Sucked losing him, but at least he isn't playing for one of our division rivals or the Penguins. And if he comes back, Detroit has exclusive rights to him. Sure, I'm not going to be petitioning for him to be the next captain of the team, but we've certainly all cheered for far worse in a Red Wing's uniform.

Kopecky leaving Detroit for Chicago is treated like a godsend around here... what about that valuable development he owed the organization for?

That's because Schneider, while overall solid, was not that great, either. Aside from his powerplay shot he was easily replaceable.

Hudler, on the other hand, was only a third liner because he had to be. The kid played like a 2nd liner. Sometimes like a 1st liner. He was destined to make it there, and when he comes back in a couple of years he'll be at that place.

Your two cents are wrong. Players in other countries grow up watching the NHL and hearing about how the NHL is the greatest competitive level you can get to.

Hudler leaving for the KHL was a money issue, but it has nothing to do with him being a euro. Fact of the matter is he could be a top line forward and make twice as much money over there.

I probably would have done the same, if I'm frank. You would have too.

Maybe for Hudler it was , but what about other players? You cant sit here and say im wrong when you DONT even know the truth.

No you are right. Datsyuk or Malkin couldn't go over to the KHL and make massive money... The KHL would gladly pay more than the NHL can for any of the top tier talent.

I want to see the best players stay in the NHL, having talent leave the league over money issues is not a good thing in my opinion.

I guess reading over my posts it looks like I hate Hudler, it's not so much that as much as I dislike the situation. I still believe this could of been avoided by him, but I'm not going to treat him like Claude Lemieux if/when he comes back.

I guess I'm just disappointed with it all and how it cost us a year of a promising prospect's prime that I've been following for years.

what has growing up in seattle washington told you about how people grow up in eastern europe and scandinavia? in europe there are many sports leagues competing, not one dominant league like the nhl, so they grow up in an enviroment where it doesnt really matter where you play and all the leagues r close. the khl is trying to compete with the nhl and european people understand that, but in north america the climate is that one league should dominate. well maybe some people r more cultured so just stop presuming

and some people actually love their club and i personally would never leave the red wings because it is my dream to be a part of the team, u r just a selfish person so u probably would take the money but dont assume all people r as mean hearted, there is good and values and morals in people that r good

Why?

He is coming back to Detroit guaranteed probably better than he was before he left. You'd rather lose him outright to free agency simply because it is in the same league (where he would be playing against an opposing team)?

Why do people keep saying this? We have no idea if Hudler will ever come back to the NHL, let alone the Red Wings, and if he does, how he will perform when that time comes. For all we know, playing in a lesser league could severely hinder his development.

I think the Wings are better off without him right now. We were able to sign a couple free agents that have shown some promise here (Miller, Eaves) that we wouldn't have been able to get otherwise. Sure they aren't proven here in Detroit but they are fitting in quite well so far.

So you are saying any player that ever leaves a team by choice has no morals or loyalty? By that logic, you could argue then that any player who takes a large contract that would prevent his team from being able to keep the team's core together and keep the team from succeeding has no morals or loyalty. I guess that makes Chris Osgood the only Red Wing with morals, huh?

Hudler was the second best playmaker on the team, and would be the fourth-best forward had he stayed. The team would be better off with just Hudler on the roster than having both Bertuzzi and Williams. Hudler being on the team would provide the Wings another forward capable of scoring plenty of goals and very good at setting them up; something only Dats and Z are capable of among current Wings.
