Lonewuhf 47 Report post Posted December 10, 2009 I'll definitely say I'm even more bitter about Flip's contract at this point than I was before. I never liked it, but I hate it now. In my mind, he should've been traded so we could keep Hossa. Hossa is a game-changer, a superstar, and probably the most complete winger in the league and he probably would've signed with us for $5 million a season. But because we've got average players like Flip signed at $3 million, we have to let the opportunity pass. It's stupid if you ask me, more than ever in light of how the rest of the off-season went and how this season has gone. We offered Hossa 5 mil a season and he turned it down... He didn't want to play in Detroit. If we're doing comparisons, Flip was as good if not better than Hossa last year in the playoffs, where it really matters. Flip's a steal for 3 mil, it seems like your hatred all stems from everyone else liking him, and you just wanting to go against the flow. He's a good player, deal with it. I have yet to see anything from him that shows me he's some future superstar. I see him being a great 3rd line centre... but he'll never break the top 6 the way other players here could. The team could also end up at the short-end with potential free-agents, exacerbating matters. not fun... Newsflash, Illitch doesn't really need the additional revenue (it certainly helps, but...). Also, every single player that plays hockey knows the reputation of the Red Wings; best management in all of hockey. That would do nothing to our chances of landing free agents.
