redwingsfan40 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 I'll be going to the Wings game January 23rd against the LA Kings. I've been to JLA a few times but have never had the chance to do much around that area. I'll be staying 2 nights in a hotel about 20 minutes south of the arena. I'll be coming up Friday night from the Toledo Walleye game (ECHL) then leaving Sunday morning to head to a Kalamazoo Wings game (ECHL). I have already been to Hockeytown Cafe but plan to eat there once again but also hit up Cheli's Chili for the first time. Does anyone have any suggestions on anything to hit up before the game on Saturday? There will be a lot of time to kill. Also, does anyone have the address to the Red Wings team store? The first time I went to JLA I found the address but never got the chance to go and now I can't find it. Thank you.
Nic 59 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) Team store? The one in Troy? It's called Hockeytown Authentics. There's also a small one in the Joe. 1845 East Big Beaver Road Troy, MI 48083-2007 (248) 680-0965 Best thing to do downtown is Greektown. Use the People Mover stop at the Joe (just ask someone where), and take it there and back. It will take you to the casino. The restaurants and shops are all on Monroe street. OR, you can park at the casino for free and take the People Mover to and from the Joe.Just remember to validate your parking ticket in the casino. There's also a concert venue right there called Saint Andrew's Hall. Also, you will be in town for the last couple days of the North American International Auto Show at Cobo. Right next door to the Joe. If you have a passport, you can drive or take a shuttle over to Windsor, Canada. There's a lot of cool bars there. I would personally recommend Pepper's for food and The Honest Lawyer for drinks. Both on Ouelette St. Again you can park at Caesar's Casino for free. Ouelette is only a couple blocks walk. It's COLD, but i've done it that time of year many times. Just dress warm. Edited December 29, 2009 by Nic
redwingsfan40 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 Thanks for the suggestions!! Unfortunately I don't have a passport. I've been meaning to get one mainly for the fact JLA is so close to Windsor. And over the summer I was thinking of going to a Blue Jays game. I have the papers to apply for one but I'm going to get them sent so I can get one. And Hockeytown Authentics was the store I was thinking of.
redwingsfan40 0 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 A question about Hockeytown Authentics though... What are their prices compared to what is at JLA for merchandise?

jollymania 162 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 (edited) if you want some good beer go to Kuhnhenns in Warren, and in Kzoo stop at bell's. There's also some brewpubs in Royal Oak. There isn't much stuff to see downtown though. There's also Perani's which has a large selection of gear, multiple locations. WMUCarGuy 8 Report post Posted December 29, 2009 If you're planning on going to Hockeytown Authentics, it'll be a good 30+ min drive from downtown Detroit. I second the notion of going to Bell's in Kalamazoo. It's been voted the 4th best brewery in the world and is always great fun. They'll have live music if you're there thurs-sat. I went to school at Western Mich. in Kalamazoo and it was always one of my very favorite places to hang out at. Kzoo is a great little town with tons of great bars and restaurants, I'd reccomend the Union, Burdick's, or Olde Peninsula downtown for food, Shakespeares and Waldo's are great bars as well. I'd stay away from Firehouse or Wayside as they're pretty generic and generally full of d-bag fratboys. And not sure what the schedule looks like, but you could pick up a WMU hockey game too if they're playing As has been stated in other, similar threads, the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn is always interesting, especially if you like cars and other forms of industry. Travis 576 Report post Posted December 30, 2009 St. Andrew's Hall barely ever has shows anymore. If you're looking for a concert of any sort, your best bets are going to be The Majestic/Magic Stick (which also has a restaurant, bar, and bowling alley) or the Fillmore. Both of which are on Woodward and within relative proximity to the Hockeytown Cafe - to give you an idea.
