Helm and Abdelkalder Should Be on the Same Line

Seriously, these are our two hardest working players and our two best checkers.

If they were on the same line, they could create a lot of havoc offensively and would be a very fun line to watch. Plug in anyone else as the other wing on that line, except for Draper, who would of course have to be the remaining center on the 4th line.

Babcock needs to make this happen.

To me the best checking line Babs could put out there would be Eaves Abs Helm (Hell even May!).

Draper-Helm-Eaves seems to be working just fine. With Datsyuk playing inconsistently and the second scoring line constantly in flux or even nonexistent thanks to injuries, they have probably been the Wings' best line night in and night out, in terms of effort anyways.

The Helm line has been playing well because of him. Eaves and Draper don't do anything consistently enough to put scoring pressure on the other team.

I just feel like having our two best hitters and energy guys on the same line would be really good. Besides, what Babcock wants is not exactly working right now the way that he wants, so he has to change these lines up somehow.

We have too many centermen, especially when what's his face (Williams) returns, so someone will have to move to the wing anyway.

Because of Datsyuk's absence he was centering the fourth line with Maltby and Leino for most of it, as I recall. And in any event, goal scoring is not something he regularly brings to the table no matter where he's playing.

If they ever can get fully healthy I think Abdelkader is still eligible to be sent down to Grand Rapids without being exposed to waivers, and a full roster could force their hand in that way. I'm sure you'll be overjoyed to know he could be pushed out in favor of keeping someone like Leino on board.

Yes, you are correct, he was centering Leino and Maltby in games 1 and 2.

I agree. Abdelkader-Helm-Eaves could be the second coming of The Grind Line, although slightly different version of it. That line should be our 3rd line next season.

I would like to see this. Draper on any line kills it offensively. Although he has been much improved this year. Maybe because he's at the wing now? He has good speed and that line is pretty good, but it would generate more scoring punch with Abs on it IMO. Draper back to centering the 4th unless he can't handle it. Somebody is going to have to be converted to winger for this team. We've got so many nice centers and no wingers.

Nobody has been hitting good lately, even Stuart and Abdelkader have been getting knocked down by counter hits. Helm has not been as good of a hitter as he was last year

That stands to reason - before this season we had only seen Helm play in the playoffs, and obviously he's not playing with as much intensity in the regular season.

I don't agree with GMR much but I'm sold on this. I think we'll be pretty damn solid once we're healthy.

So Bert just gets overlooked? I think having Franzen with Dats is a must. Z is good on the second line.

That's how I'd do it now until Williams or Holmstrom come back.

If not for that ****** Lebda, this would look like a much better lineup with Homer also being in the top 6 instead of Eaves, who's not really a top 6 guy. However, this is my current compromise.
