Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) http://foolsandsages.net/2009/11/10/the-pl...ian-hockey-fan/ I admit I never really thought about some of the issues from Cali's POV. Its a bit of a read but good IMO. Its also from November so its kind of old, but still relevant. Edited January 20, 2010 by Echolalia

bonan78 1 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Good read, thanks for sharing. I've never had a problem with having teams in California, and given the recent success of all 3 teams, the loyal and knowledgeable (albeit often unsophisticated and violent) fanbase, hockey is in the Golden State for good. Other teams need to be moved, get some teams out of the southeast and into the northwest (and at least 2 more Canadian teams) so that Detroit can move to the Eastern Conference where they belong and all will be well. Seriously, if Detroit were in the east they'd be tied for 5th place right now, not to mention having to make 2 west-coast road trips a year as opposed to one every 2 years. WMUCarGuy 8 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 I remember being at the Wings/Kings game in LA last year and it seemed as if half the building was Wings fans. Fast forward to this season's first meeting of the 2 squads and Kings fans massively outnumbered Red Wings fans at Staples Center. LA is obviously doing something right in terms of promoting their team, and it's working as the fans are coming out. And I'm sure it doesn't hurt that the team has played really well and is currently in a playoff spot.
zettie85 106 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 (edited) I think having local feeds hurts the West a little in this sense. In the east people who will watch the Bruins for example have their games at the regular time 7 o'clockish. once their game is done they have no need to watch anymore. Unlike me who will watch any game that is on, some people don't care enough to watch other teams. I'm sure even here in Canada throughout the regular season, they have more viewers for longer periods of time out west because of the late game. My point is, they can't broadcast west games earlier because they would not get the viewers that they get now. Nobody is going to stop watching their local feed to watch San Jose vs. Dallas. As much as this guy writing the article doesn't like it there are more viewers in the eastern USA. It may be big in California but not bigger then the east.
