taxijim 11 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 I'm no fan of Price but didn't Janssen's feet leave the ice....at one point his skates are pointing at the roof & to me this is charging. With Janssen's goon image it was pretty predictable that a penalty was coming...he saw a chance for a good shot & made the best of it.

At no point did he try to make contact with Price.
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 If you view it again, with the aid of the "pause", you can see that Montreal got caught on a terrible line change. Speculation on TSN this morning was that prior to this, Price was not happy with the work of his defencemen; so he took matters into his own hands. They also said he did not talk to the media after the game. I think he should be fair game.
RedArmy 4 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 Well goalies are sissies, but that's not the point. Goalies should not be fair game because they play the least replaceable position. Not many teams can survive without their #1 goalie and they don't want to see them getting injured because they got body checked. In this case, however, I see no reason to blame Janssen. He didn't run Price, he was going after the puck and tried to avoid him. Had he waited for price to play it, then go and lay him out, there would be a major problem. why da hell not? Don't come out of the crease so far out and you won't be fair game... back in a day in Soviet League players were allowed to check the goalie if he pulled what Price did, it was completely legal and acceptable. That was European leage back in the 80s and 70s and even earlier on... What does dumb ass Cherry have to say on that I wonder?
PotbellyJoe 10 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 When did this become a ***** sport? If your 20 feet from the crease, know you may get wrecked. If I were Jansen I would've just gone straight through him, at least make it worth it. I am all for protecting goaltenders in the crease, or making sure they are able to make a play on a shot. That's needed for them to be able to play their position. But if some Goal tender decides he wants to play defenceman, then he gets everything that goes with that position, including getting smoked by a bigger faster player being aggressive in his offensive zone. And next, keep your gloves on. I hate this idiocy that I seem to be seeing more and more now of guys jumping in after a hit to 'pummel' a guy. Take his number fight him later. While we're on a goaltender rant... Drop the trapezoid rule.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 I was expecting to see Conks fly down the ice only to trip on a stick and knock down Price for a 2nd time
RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 Noticed Price trying to pry Hamrlik off of Janssen. I don't think that would have gone well for Mr. Price. Well, there's a reason he kept his mask on
Pavel Hossyukstrom 2 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 (edited) Janssen clearly left his feet on that one!! shoulda been a penalty. j/k Edited January 21, 2010 by Pavel Hossyukstrom

With Janssen's goon image it was pretty predictable that a penalty was coming...he saw a chance for a good shot & made the best of it. It looked like the jump was an effort to not hit the goalie, to squeeze between him and the boards. If he has wanted to Janssen could have leveled him much harder than he did. Mors 201 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 What the f*** was Price thinking? he's a goaltender so no one can touch him regardless of where he puts himself? He was asking for it...and it's cheesy that he tried to act tough about it after.

commadore183 103 Report post Posted January 21, 2010 That hit would never have happened if it was Ozzie in net. Janssen would have gone through his five-hole (I kid, I kid. Just surprised that no one had said that ) Someone on the team should have told Price "What the f*** did you expect when you raced out in front of a flying player, dumbass! Don't be pissed at him!" Price only has himself to blame for that.
