rage 24 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 I finally timed this!! Last night I watched the end of the Pistons game. Guess what? It took OVER fifteen minutes to finish the last 2:27 of the game!! 15 MINUTES TO PLAY 2:27 of Basketball! And not to mention all the fouls and commercials that really just slow the crap out of the game! I think the NBA should reduce the number of timeouts each team has. I mean that is riduclous. The NBA players are good enough that they should just play the last couple of minutes out w/o having to call 45 timeouts to go talk to the coach. Hockey is skate, skate, skate! The last 2:27 of a hockey game usually takes, well 2:27 to play unless there is offsides or a penalty call, etc. I am feeling really spoiled watching hockey I guess, and it has really made it hard for me to watch the NBA regularly, especially the end of games! Even the ones that aren't close are brutal to watch. That being said, I still love to watch Baseball!! Go figure!!!!

Dano33 41 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 There's a reason why the last 2 minutes of basketball games take forever. It's because those are the only 2 minutes in the entire game that matter. The rest of the game it just a bunch of guys trying to prove how cool they are.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 I agree and have been saying it for years. The NBA needs to give teams 3 timeouts per half. Are these players so stupid, that they need a timeout after each whistle down the stretch? I mean, isn't that what these morons train and practice for? Seraph 240 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 That's always one of my arguments on why basketball is not so fun. The last minutes in a close game are all about fouling and clawing your way toward a tie. It takes no heart. Some of the best finishes to games in my opinion have been in hockey. Game five and six of the 2008 finals. Our almost come-back in the last game of 2007 was crazy too. What's worse is in basketball the last minutes DO tend to be the most exciting part of the game. It's 2 points this way and then 2 or 3 the other for the whole game. It only gets really good with game winners at the buzzer and such. But I have better things to do than waste a few hours watching a bunch of over-grown men either blow the other team out, or get close and then start fouling the other team, finally culminating to the only real exciting "buzzer beater" part of the game. Guest Howard He Do It?! Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Not only that, but scoring is supposed to be hard and supposed to be exciting when it happens. In basketball, scoring is easy and very rarely exciting. Basketball blows.
RedWingAbner 13 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Just think of how boring hockey would be if the players could not hit and the game was played without goalies. That's basketball. It sucks.
thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Intentional fouling is more of a time drag than TOs.
swedishconnection 36 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 This conversation is nothing. I am a Football fan. (Soccer). There is no more harsh of a gear shift from a fast, grueling, hard-hitting, fluid, decent scoring sport to a sport that rewards fake injuries, primma-donna's, low-scoring, and relatively slow moving players. That being said, I still love the only sport that the WORLD watches, and I am looking forward to the World Cup. Overall, though, my heart is a Hockey heart. No ifs, ands or buts. But still... its freaking hard to switch my mind from Post-season hockey to mid-season Soccer. (Not an intentional threadjack, just sayin...)
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 There are so many more reasons than that as to why basketball pretty much sucks as a sport. The last 2 minutes of the game is thet one part I DO like about basketball. Not that I've never seen an exciting basketball game, but I never understood its huge popularity. If you've seen one basketball game, you've seen them all.

I think this all the time. It's 25 timeouts in the last couple minuets. I think 3 timeouts per half would be a great start!
Hank Dats 'N Homer 81 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 The NBA went down hill ever since gary Bettman left. About the same time that the NHL really hit stride and started taking over the world. Yup that was sarcasm Basketball has always been very boring to me, and i hate the fact that the last 2 minutes take an eternity to be played out. Most of the time the game is decided with the last 30 seconds of the game, so when i do watch basketball (which is very rare and usually only in the playoffs) i usually only tune in for the last 30 seconds cause thats all that matters anyways.... Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Difference between a hockey player and a basketball player: A basketball player is nudged by an opponent and proceeds to fall over, seemingly on purpose, as if he were just shot with a bazooka. He is then announced to be missing the next 2 months nursing a sore ankle. A hockey player takes a 100 mph slap shot to the nose, instantly felling him and goes to the dressing room for repairs. He returns to action the next period.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Really? Most NBA players go to college (and all have to now). Can the NHL say that? Please provide your demographics. For the last decade, most NBA players either come from Europe as teens, skip college right out of high school, or play one year in college and then jump to the NBA. So no, they don't go to college. The guys that stay 4 years in college don't usually wind up playing in the NBA.

Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Really? Most NBA players go to college (and all have to now). Can the NHL say that? Please provide your demographics. Most NBA players go to college for one year w/o even going to their classes or even getting an education. The majority of the US players in the NHL go to college for at least 2 years while the Canadian players go to private high schools. The education of NHL players is substantially higher than an NBA player on average. Have you even heard an interview given by an NBA player? Compare that to an interview given by an NHL player and listen how much more articulate the NHL player is. And not all NBA players go to college.

I don't know, but I think it's higher than the percentage of NBA players that attend college. Also, in Europe education tends to be better than in the U.S, and the NHL has a lot more Europeans than the NBA.

zettie85 106 Report post Posted January 25, 2010 Really? Most NBA players go to college (and all have to now). Can the NHL say that? Please provide your demographics. If the are NBA caliber then they get a free ride in college. Even in Canada team doctors can get you out of exams and class while playing sports. I can't even imagine what the NCAA is like when it comes to huge programs like NC and Duke. You probably don't even have to show up if you are the team. Exaggerated a bit maybe but it is not like the majority even get a degree. They all declare themselves for the draft and say f*** school.

Compare that to an interview given by an NHL player and listen how much more articulate the NHL player is. And not all NBA players go to college. You are being blatantly ignorant now. NBA rules DEMAND you attend college for at least one season (or just sit out, which no one has done). There are less than 10 players in the league who never went to college. (I'm talking North American players, though). Most play at least 3 years. Your "Most NBA players go to college for one year" is a lie, and you can't support your "w/o even going to their classes or even getting an education" at all. You are making things up. And we were discussing education, not articulateness. Those two aren't the same.

There are a few how haven't, like Kobe and Garnett and a handful of others who didn't and sucked (looking at you, Kwame), but that's the vast minority. Whereas it seems to me, most NHLers never go to college. Again, I'm not taking Europe into account here.
