Rufio 29 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 Why is Maltby "Untouchable" ? I'm confused. This is the first time the word "untouchable" has been used in this thread.
Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 Bud, as nice as all that sounds, the cap is still in effect after the trade deadline. It's only in the playoffs that the cap disappears. Because all of our player's salaries have been paid. Essentially they are playing the playoffs for free, which is why we can call up however many players we want. Rufio 29 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 sidetrack "sort of"........... from what i gathered from ken and mick last game....if a player coming back from LTI is cleared...he can be sent to grand rapids for a "conditioning stint" for 2 weeks to adjust. this was a probable for lilja.... in 2 weeks "of play" that puts us past the deadline...therefore lifting the cap. so with that in mind....can we acquire a injured player and send him to the minors for this "stint" and not have him count? there has to be an exception for this rule....i just dont know. hypothetical....mule, willy, holmer, lilja, my brain....all in the minors for conditioning... trade meech, leino for picks...waive may sign kovalchuk, johnson, whitney. ha! i am presently selling this "crack" at half price! act now...demand will be incredible! You must've got that crack from the same person who told you that you can somehow "lift the cap" when you have someone on a conditioning stint during the deadline. This post gets a very big WTF?!?! from me.
dropkickshanahans 463 Report post Posted January 29, 2010 You'd think some of us would learn all of this stuff by now, but each time it's brought up I feel like I'm back at square 1 trying to re-learn all of this

russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted January 30, 2010 Bertuzzi-Datsyuk-Holmstrom Franzen-Zetterberg-Cleary Miller-Filppula-Williams Draper-Helm-Eaves Maltby Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Ericsson-Lilja Meech Howard Osgood Cap: 56.732 I think that realistically cap-wise Lebda, May and Leino are all gone. Due to cap reasons that is the best combination. Maltby would be more useful to let go, I just don't see it happening.
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted January 30, 2010 mlive The return of Lilja and Johan Franzen, who is expected back within two weeks, would put the Red Wings two players over the 23-man roster limit and roughly $1.9 million over the salary cap. It will force them to make some tough decisions. “We want the choices,†Holland said. “We want the players healthy. Now it looks like he’s going to play. Damn near 2 million over the cap. Not sure if that will help out people more to see what the wings need to do.
