Team Michigan?

Recommended Posts

All of this Olympic talk has made me wonder what a Team Michigan roster would look like. How do you guys think they would do in international play? What about a US tournament between the states?

Anyways, here's my idea...

Team Michigan

David Booth - Ryan Kesler - Chad LaRose

Dave Moss - David Legwand - Jim Slater

T.J Hensick - Mike Modano - Brian Rolston

Mike Grier - Justin Abdelkader - Kevin Porter

Jack Johnson - Brian Rafalski

Tim Gleason - James Wisniewski

Jeff Finger - Matt Hunwick

Ryan Miller

Tim Thomas

Wow, after getting the first couple lines and d pairings...this was much harder to do then I thought it would be. What do you guys think?

knuble

Played at Michigan but born in Windsor, I think.

Edit: Looks like Toronto - http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/1296

Wasn't Miller born in NJ, but grew up in Michigan?

Edit: Okay. I must be thinking of Drew http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/2637 http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/players/3883

I was basing Johnson off of the TeamUSA website. Guess they are wrong...

Anyways, I found this link at hockey-reference, but I'm not sure how accurate it is...

If Ryan Miller is on there, then why not Drew? They grew up in NJ but lived in MI for awhile...obviously attending state. and their dad lives in EL.

And Knuble went to East Kentwood so thats native enough perhaps?

If not, i'll play!

So far the Michigan connection is doing well in the Olympic Tourney.

I would like to see Ryan Miller brought home to wear a Winged Wheel.

Wonder how different the Canucks program would be if they had gotten home town boy Burnaby Joe Sakic.

That being said, even though I know Pat LaFontaine (played baseball with him as a kid) I'm glad we got Stevie Y instead of the homegrown talent in that particular situation. Nothing against Pat. He's terrific. But ya can't compete with a Legend.

Out of the Team of States Tourney, Minni could be the team to beat.

Wonder what the Teams of Providences would look like. Ontario and BC could be fightening, I suspect.

Could Team Michigan compete with Team Sweden? After all, they are both drawn from a population of just under 10 million.

From a goaltending and (probably) a defensive standpoint we could matchup with the Swedes but I think Team Mitten would be a bit light on offense to beat the guys in yellow...Team Minnesota likewise probably has the firepower to matchup but not the goaltending...mix Team Michigan with Team Minnesota and you could produce a team capable of beating the Swedes.
