dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 Gotta say I'm sad that we didn't get to see either of the two dream-matchups I had in mind before the tournament. Babcock vs. The Detroit Swedes or Datsyuk vs. Zetterberg
dat's sick 1,002 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 How can this be good? I'm pretty sure this will be extremely deflating for Dats, Zetterberg, Franzen, Kronwall and Lids. Huge favorites to make the Semi's if not win a medal, and they get destroyed. This is pretty much the worst thing that could of happened. Winning would be a much bigger motivating factor to do well. The Wings aren't in 9th place because of health. They aren't playing well. Simple as that. No more injury or health excuses. Detroit's entire season has been deflating, and I bet a lot of these guys thought this tournament could turn their games around. But it just proved how mediocre they've become. I don't want to rag on specific people, or blame the Wings players for these loses. But Datysuk, Zetterberg and Lidstrom are supposed to be three of the best players in the world. And they all played pretty bad, about as bad as they've been playing all season. Rest isn't the motivating factor here. These guys are in a funk, and to get out of a funk, a bad performance at something you look forward too for 4 years, isn't going to help. The worst has happened. Our players (other then maybe Rafalski and Flipulla) have given us no reason to believe they'll play better down the stretch. Every single game left matters. Do these guys have what it takes right now? After this demoralizing escapade? There is no telling how the players will react. Maybe losing in the Olympics is finally the thing that wakes these guys up. Losing in the quarters in the Olympics is almost the same as missing the playoffs in the NHL. Now they know failure. They won't want to fail with the Wings as well. Also, I think Franzen gave us a lot of reason to believe that the Wings will be stronger down the stretch. cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 Sweden's in the Men's Curling Final; might be tough getting good seats for that, though.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 The Russians played like Semin fights....... He looked like a frickin' baby about to cry his eyes out when Boyle pushed him down after the game. Total *****. Also, I think Franzen gave us a lot of reason to believe that the Wings will be stronger down the stretch. Same.
j.hoop 64 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 I thought Canada would win tonight against Russia, but I didn't expect them to dominate like they did. If Sweden beat Slovakia tonight, then Kronwall and Lidstrom will play a lot of minutes against Canada. Guys like Nash, Getzlaf, Iginla, Morrow, Perry, Richards, etc are going to crush them. Lidstrom has lost a step, and we know Kronwall has problems. I want to see Slovakia win tonight, 3-2.
