Serapth 3 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 By current NHL prices, that is actually a pretty good bargain! He is developing well and could easily be a 70 point man. Hm and Glencross were great pickups. Now, the fact that 3 mil a year is the going price for a 60 point player in the NHL is just sick. What the hell did we sit out a year of hockey for again?!?!?! In other words, f*** you Gary Bettman and f*** you NHLPA. *sigh*
Drake_Marcus 890 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 6 year deal, $3.3 million cap hit. Hmmm... that's pretty dangerous. That'll either be a steal or an overpayment that they won't be able to unload. His body of work is too small to say for sure. Hopefully he keeps up the good work. adubs 8 Report post Posted February 25, 2010 Perfect cap hit. If he went to FA I'm sure it would have been higher. The term is questionable for such an injury prone player but hell the Flames probably won't be in contention for anything in six years. He was on 70 point pace all year until the whole team fell apart. Keep in mind the Flames have been winning or losing every game 2-1 so 70 point pace is pretty good. I would say he has easily been the best Flame forward this season due to Iginla's lazyness. Contrary to popular HFBoards belief, he is not a complimentary player. The second line was being carried by Bourque the entire season and he is responsible for the majority of his production.

I really don't know if he's got the skill to warrant the kind of money being thrown at him. The injury thing is a huge red flag for me, too. Calgary should have some other team overpay him in the off-season.
hooon 1,089 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 Hmm, looks like a decent deal. While I don't really think he would have fit into our system at all, I was kinda hoping the Wings would take a look. Oh well, best of luck to him.

Calgary should have some other team overpay him in the off-season. Speed and hard work > skill This is why Heatley and Thornton are useless against teams like the U.S. His major problem outside of injuries is his tunnel vision but who is he going to pass to? Langkow who I doubt can bend his wrists any more? Or Dawes who goes five hole every time? I think it's interesting though that Kotalik and Higgins are on the second line right now with Bourque playing on the third line. Something has to be coming and it definitely does not involve Higgins.
dragonballgtz 273 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 He is pretty decent trade bait now for a team that needs to add some scoring depth but doesnt have a lot of cap room.

Doesn't make sense to pick up ( way overpriced ) and doesn't make sense from Sutter perspective, he isnt a Canadian born player for one, isn't physical for another. That said, if he is part of a 3 way trade, its the slowest damned 3 way trade ever!
TheDetroitRedWings 286 Report post Posted February 26, 2010 Very good signing for the Flames (unfortunately). Bourque is a gritty, all around talented young player. Would love to have that guy in the winged wheel. But obviously that's not happening for at least 6 years. lol

That said, if he is part of a 3 way trade, its the slowest damned 3 way trade ever! It's almost like Sutter has completely changed his philosophy (and lost his mind). He now goes after soft players and hands out six year contracts like nothing. Bourque's contract is a little front loaded with the last two years paying $2.5M per. If he really does degrade by then I'm sure a team trying to hit the cap floor will take him.
