Well it looks like the Red Wings have a big chance here to gain some seperation in the playoff race. Currently, we are in 8th place with 72 points. That is 3 points ahead of 9, 10, 11th place and 3 points behind 7th place. Here is our opponents upcoming schedules:

St. Louis:

3/6 - @Colorado

3/11 - @NYI

3/13 - @Columbus

Calgary:

3/5 - New Jersey (up 3-1 in the third)

3/7 - @Minnesota

3/9 - @Detroit

Dallas:

3/6 - @Pittsburgh

3/8 - @Washington

3/10 - @Buffalo

Nashville:

3/7 - Vancouver

3/9 - @Atlanta

3/11 - @San Jose

Detroit:

3/7 - @Chicago

3/9 - Calgary

3/11 - Minnesota

Based on the upcoming games, it looks like Dallas may drop out of the race, and Calgary and St. Louis may lose some ground. Also, Nashville has two very tough opponents in Vancouver and San Jose (don't count out Atlanta either). As stated, the Wings have a very big opportunity here. We had a big win tonight and looks like we can gain some seperation if we can continue to win...ofcourse our upcoming schedule looks tough as well.

I hate to sound obvious, but strength of schedule never seems to matter in any sport.

We always see teams playing the spoiler and winning games in which they have nothing to play for, and vice versa.

I just hate how all the teams above us have pulled away even though a month ago everyone was bunched in together. At this point, 8th place seems to be the only thing we can hope for, as long as Nashville stays a few games ahead of us.

This is true. I am looking at this from a logical standpoint, meaning "Team A" SHOULD be able to beat "Team B". I am expecting a few spoiler games. We have a few tough games ahead of us. We need to get points out of them though. Someway we need to get 4. Nashville may be in trouble though. Especially with their upcoming schedule and possibly injury to their top D-Man.

(mostly wishful thinking :))

I know what you mean. If this comes down to the end, this board will be having a meltdown every single night...let's just hope for some breathing room

Well all the games went our way last night with the Stars Blues Ducks and Jax all losing. Now if only we can pull a rabbit out of the hat and win in Chi town and hope the Wild can burn the Flames then it has been a great weekend for us.

I'm tired of the Flames always copying us in terms of results.

We've had a lot of injuries this year, so I think it's only fair that Iginla and Kiprusoff would have a nice collision with each other in this next game of theirs.

f*** the Flames. I'm tired of seeing those first round losers (4 years in a row!) in our rearview mirror.

And yet there was a time when the Flames were what many fans hoped the Red Wings would aspire to be. Bigger! Faster! Younger! My oh my, where does the time go?
