Why is there an award for best defensive forward then? Shouldn't there only be the best all-around forward?

Because a forward's first responsibility is not defensive.

A defenseman is supposed to be good defensively first and foremost, so an award for best defensive defenseman looks pointless.

Besides, the Selke trophy has been around a long time. It's part of hockey history. There's no reason to create more awards. It's already stupid that there's a Hart trophy and a Pearson trophy, even though they're supposed to be for basically the same thing.
