toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted April 7, 2010 So, I happened to simply check the scores of all the games tonight and the 5-1 lead Carolina had over Tampa Bay caught my eye, so I guickly checked the box score and saw that Carolina scored 2 goals in the last 30 seconds of the period, 3 goals in the final 2 minutes. The Lightning were within 1 goal, only down 2-1 with 2 minutes to go in the period and then, 1.5 minutes later they are down 5-1....brutal, brutal, brutal. mjlegend 155 Report post Posted April 7, 2010 I would guess they don't resign Tanguay in the offseason. They have some pretty crippling contracts that will make sure they don't get any higher than sixth in the conference for the next while.

Actually, they have a fairly healthy amount of cap space....though the close to $8 million cap hit they'll have for Lecavalier over the next 10 years looks pretty ugly. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted April 7, 2010 One thing the cap has done is create a glut of overpaid players who really hurt teams. I know players have always been overpaid, but nowadays taht can kill a franchise. 10 more years of this cap and we're going to have 30 teams overloaded with crappy players without the ability to sign truly great talent because they've got bloated long term contracts signed. Which sure would create parity but also really cut down on exciting hockey.
Guest Lidstromboli Report post Posted April 7, 2010 The cap didn't create that problem. Stupid GMs did.

So if the players only get 50k each... where should the rest of the TV, merch, gate money go? Into the pockets of execs? Lets not underestimate how important entertainment is to the world. By no means do i agree with 50k salaries, i think what they are getting paid is fine, they earn it every night, but i think this would lower ticket cost to almost nothing so the execs wouldn't really be getting it. Problem is that we have proven that (at leats in soem markets) we will pay the high ticket prices. Even if salaries came down the ticket prices would stay the same. I see what you are saying though.
