With a wrister from the point Stamkos ties for the league lead in goals and passes Crosby. It was his second goal of the night. I really hope he can win it this year after watching him with the sting and everything it would be awesome.

Really hope the kid wins it. He´s doing a great job on this team. They play Florida again tomorrow, so maybe he can score a few more.

By the way, Vanek is putting on a show in Ottawa. 4 goals halfway trough the game. I wonder if he could get a 50 goal season in the future.

I wonder what Barry Melrose has to say about this. Less than a year ago he said Stamkos isn't even NHL ready. And thats the reason he wasn't giving him top forward minutes. Now in the blink of an eye Stamkos is a 50 goal scorer on a sub par lightning team? Looks like once again Barry Melrose has no clue what he's talking about. Melrose getting fired was clearly the best thing that ever happened to Stamkos. I'm sure he has quite an impressive career ahead of him. It's always nice when a number 1 pick lives up to the hype.

and yzerman didnt put him on the olympic team this year so..

basically, there was no reason to rush him. it seemed to work out fine. i actually hope he finishes with more goals then ovechkin/crosby, he should be getting a lot more hype.

I think the Olympic team thing is more forgivable then not playing him last year like Melrose did. There is so many quality guys that made Canada, and Stamkos did nothing last year. From Yzerman's POV Stamkos was probably just having a hot start and would cool off eventually.

First of all I think Melrose is a ******-canoe, but you're misunderstanding what he said. He said that Stamkos wasn't physically ready for the NHL. And he was right. People commented on his lack of muscle at the draft.

If you asked Stamkos what the biggest difference between this year and last year was he'd say it was his conditioning/strength and his confidence.

Just go back and watch Stamkos' first games-- he was weak as a kitten and got pushed off the puck with ease. Then he got the message and started hitting the weight room hard. It's no surprise that his impressive talent can finally show out there. He's finally training in the weight room like an NHL player should.

If Ovechkin doesn't score this period, Stamkos has a game left to break the tie in goals (and hope that Crosby, who's 1 back doesn't pass him). Does anybody think that in a year or two we'll have Stamkos to add to the Ovechkin/Crosby argument, or no?

I don't think Stamkos will be on the level of Crosby and OV who are going to be all time guys. I think Stamkos will be right there with the superstars like Rick Nash, Kovalchuk etc.

I don't know, it's only his second year. Nash has never put up 50, and Kovalchuk didn't do it until 3 or 4? years into his career.

The sky is the limit for Stamkos, he can surely find his way into that top tier in the next couple years.

Yeah but half of Stamkos's goals came from the top of that circle on the PP. He's going to be an amazing player but the way Crosby and AO create offense out of nothing is what I think sets them apart from everyone else in the NHL. I dont see Stamkos as the type of guy that will go down for the ages. I could be wrong and hopefully I am because I've loved him ever since he went to Sarnia but even here in Sarnia he wasn't going end to end and lighting it up ridiculously.
