Guest DatsyukianDeke13 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 WOW. Just read the Lebrun report on Modano. Can't believe Kenny made a call. Mike seems like he is interested in Detroit. If I were him I would look at it this way: Detroit is gearing up for a deep (DEEP) run in the playoffs, I could probably only play one more season in the NHL, and I'm a hometown kid. As of right now it is sounding more and more feasible. However, there is the roster space problem. Personally though, I would be willing to drop one of the RFA's for him. He is a future hall of famer, not to say that the Red Wings don't have experience or anything, but the young guns could really benefit from playing with him (probably more so than playing with drapes and malts). There probably isn't a high chance of this deal happening, but it is awfully intriguing. I would say that there is maybe a 25% chance this gets done. 1 Dominator2005 reacted to this

HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 Nashville signs Matt Lombardi. Goodness... we have to see that guy more. Great signing for the Preds. And most likely with the way events have taken place the past 36 hours he got a solid deal too.

Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 lol "Whats this??Brashear and Tortorella throwing bombs!! Now at center we've got Boogaard pounding away on Avery!!" That would be awesome. :punch:
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 There probably isn't a high chance of this deal happening, but it is awfully intriguing. I would say that there is maybe a 25% chance this gets done. It might be even higher now. I am a bit surprised that no one has called him. I had said that I expected the California teams, Minnesota, and Detroit to be the ones in on him. Detroit or retirement seems like an easy choice. Good for Lombardi, he got one hell of a raise. Nashville overpaid. perhaps... but he was the ONLY center of note on the market. 3.5 for a second line center is not horrible... It isn't good either. What I like most is that I think he can still contribute, albeit maybe not much, but, probably more than some of our 3/4 liners do
Doggy 130 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 Good for Lombardi, he got one hell of a raise. Nashville overpaid. I can't disagree more about this being an overpayment. He's a great character guy, and a solid scorer.
Guest Heaten Report post Posted July 2, 2010 Not their fault... Every team has done so. This is why I am glad Kenny Holland is laying low. There is any player DRW are in dyer 'need' of right now. And I think training camp will determine the player Kenny wants. Sometime the best moves are no moves. 1 HankthaTank reacted to this

This x 3453245235987920817 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Lightning sign Swedish F Nicklas Persson to a one-year, two-way contract. He played in KHL last season. He had 13 goals, 38 pts, 55 games Edited July 2, 2010 by DatsyukianDeke13
Frozen-Man 144 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 What I like most is that I think he can still contribute, albeit maybe not much, but, probably more than some of our 3/4 liners do I think he could still contribute quite a bit. He did have 30 points in 59 games last year playing on lower lines and he still has good wheels.
Guest Heaten Report post Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) I can't disagree more about this being an overpayment. He's a great character guy, and a solid scorer. So are Danny Cleary and Filppula. I think $2.8 - $3 million tops for Lombardi. $2.5 would have been a bargain. $3.5 million for 3 years is too much. He had a career year last year and is banking on it. He's a 40 point guy. I think he could still contribute quite a bit. He did have 30 points in 59 games last year playing on lower lines and he still has good wheels. I think if Modano came here, I think we'd have arguably the top three 3rd line in the NHL. Edited July 2, 2010 by Heaten
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 (edited) What I like most is that I think he can still contribute, albeit maybe not much, but, probably more than some of our 3/4 liners do Well contribute what is the real point of all of this. Obviously points are easy to see, but will he contribute defensively?? I think sometimes what you have and know can be better than what you do not know about. He was a great defensive player, but he has been in the negative for the last few years. .5 points per game is great if he can hold that, and if he can stay in the plsu then yeah that is great, but these are questions. Miller was .29 ppg and plus 5. He should be getting better so those numbers should move north. If Modano moves south on his numbers then it could be a wash if you are replacing him with Modano. If you are somehow just replacing Maltby with Modano, I think you can safely call that a win. But you have to remember there are alot of players in the mix. What will Ritola do? I just assume that Modano may not want to come here if there is a chance he might not make the team. Maltby at least would. I would like to have Mike, but if we take him and lose someone like Ritola in camp because we have to subject him to waivers, and he becomes a player we will all be pissed. I think if Modano came here, I think we'd have arguably the top three 3rd line in the NHL. I still have the feeling he would be a fourth liner for us. I think the third line would still have to be composed of our young guys. Edited July 2, 2010 by Majsheppard

And I think training camp will determine the player Kenny wants. Sometime the best moves are no moves. I agree with BUT we don't need to overpay - we have enough talent, only thing this team needs is tough 3rd/4th liner who can skate, hit and fight and BIG D (right hand shot) who can clear the crease and run 2nd PP unit (Foster/Boynton). Nobody is asking here for Kovalchuk/Gonchar/Nabokov... people are asking for peanuts... We might end up with Modano, but is there any need for him now??? I don't think so... When you look at series against Sharks - once thing we were missing was RIGHT HAND faceoff man - that was one of area where we got beaten. This is great team but we are lacking right hand shots/face-offs. It's minor things but sometimes (playoff times) that's whats makes your team a winning team. The thing is +/- has to be looked at in comparison to the entire team. Not that Modano was one of the top guys on his team but there were only 2 guys on the entire Stars team that were above a +3 while the Wings had 7 that were +5 or better. I'm not saying that Modano is as good defensively as Miller is but the Wings were a +13 in goal differential while Dallas was a -17 and the differential of 30 goals overall skews comparing their plus minus numbers. I must respectfully disagree, we were also missing a referee in our pocket, having one of our own would have really helped even out the series.

Oh with out a doubt you are correct. This is the problem with looking at any players except the ones in your system. What works in one place may not work in another because of all the differences. I think Miller has earned a chance to build upon what he accomplished here, that is all I am saying. Ritola deserves a chance to prove himself as well, but Modano has earned his right to finish his career with the Stars too... I would be happy with him finishing with a cup though! Guest Heaten Report post Posted July 2, 2010 I must respectfully disagree, we were also missing a referee in our pocket, having one of our own would have really helped even out the series. My wife wholeheartedly believes there is politics in the NHL. She points to the Wings/Shark series to reinforce her argument. It's hard to deny something shady wasn't going on. I agree, I like Miller and hope he gets the chance to stay here (which I assume he will since he has been given an offer sheet he will likely get the chance to keep his spot at camp)I just think Modano would not be a defensive liability to this team at all. HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted July 2, 2010 Konopka to islanders and Winchester re-signed right after each other, there are a few people sobbing in their pillows MacIntyre also just signed I don't sob over non-signed 4th liners. They were on a wish list but by no means am I towards Kenny. There are a few options left but most likely Traverse City will tell the whole story. Still think the month of July could bring somebody here.
