if he can make the russian league better, good for him. couldn't see him doing big s*** over here anyways...i still would like to see more talent go to the khl..in hopes the league folds in 5 or six years. i want to see what that would do for young russian players then when the khl folds, have them come to the nhl.

What a failure, as i've said before, 15th overall in the best draft year, ever maybe(?), bad pick by the oilers

From Edmonton Journal :

Former Edmonton Oilers winger Robert Nilsson has gone to Russia and his dad, Kent, has said goodbye to the NHL organization, too, with no new address yet.

Nilsson, who was bought out in late June at one-third of the $2.5-million salary coming to him next season, signed with Salavat Yulaev in Ufa, Russia, in the Kontinental League.

His father, who had been the Oilers' European amateur scout, decided to quit, as well.

Why do you say that? Best ever? I guess when all is said and done, one might be able to look back on it as such, but right now, not sure why anyone would consider that draft year better than some others.

Edit - forgot to metion, Hugh Jessiman was taken 12th overall that year.

Fleury, Staal, Vanek, Suter, Phaneuf, Carter, Seabrook, Parise, Getzlaf, Richards... all all-stars then you had...

Horton, Zherdev, Michalek, Brown, Burns, Kesler, Perry.. all more or less franchise players

And then in 2nd round Weber etc

1989 draft was also good but this one...best THUS far...

What about 1979 or 1988?

I think 2003 could very well end up being one of the best ever, I just think it's too early yet, wait until most of them retire and then assess.

My general comments though. The bolded players, I don't think they have ever been on an all star team in the NHL. And the second list, I say a lot of those guys are far from franchise players. Some are good players, some are very good, but franchise? Not so sure. Zherdev isn't even in the league anymore.
