Lord Stanely 39 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 What are some of your favorite hockey moments- for me it would have to be: Game 1 SCF when Fleury fell flat on his face entering the rink. Probert Domi fights Seeing Gretzky play during his final season live. My first game at the Joe- Yzerman moved past Lemieux on goal list (even though I got to the game late and missed the goal) and Datsyuk scored a goal to send it to overtime with I think 3.8 seconds left against Blackhawks. They then lost in OT like 8 seconds in. Going to Game two of the SCF and meeting Franzen after the game when he signed my sons' pucks for them- seeing Gordie Howe, Yzerman, Kenny Holland, Lidstrom, Osgood, etc all up close as they drove out the players exit after the game. My first NHL game- Detroit at Chicago in I think 94. More Wings fans than Chicago fans. Wings won! Shanahan scored- I remember that.

HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) double ot yzerman goal against the blues wings winning cup for first time in 42 years Absolutely to these. Being at the Joe for the Mac-Turtle rematch when they fought right after the faceoff. Just unreal energy there that night. Watching the Stevie banner-raising and also the HOF night at the ACC. Attending the Cup clincher in '02 and thinking about Shanny getting the EN still just brings a big smile to my face. March 22nd Pens-Wings-watching Hank just own s*** stain all over the ice and then watching Howie face wash him after, good times. Can't really pin point all of them. s*** I love this team. Lord Stanely 39 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 (edited) That wouldn't have been 1994, or Shanahan scoring. But oh well, it's always great seeing more Detroit than Chicago bandwagoners. Sorry about the year- my first year at college was in 1994 when I moved from Adrian, Michigan to Northwest Indiana. I had been a wings fan since I was a teenager in the late 80's (Cousin told me about Probert and we watched games when ever we were at his house) but nobody to take me to or no way to get to ever see the Wings growing up. (I think I went to a total of like 6 Tigers games, 4 Pistons games NEVER a Lions game and about one game a year of Wolverine growing up so just wasn't ever fortunate enough to go to games. When I went to college my roomate was from Regina and Yorkton Canada and he introduced me to the Hockey News, and detailed hockey life to which I have never turned back. My 3rd year in college (1996) would have actually been my first game ever as I remember going with him and another Canuck friend. Hooked since but certainly no band wagon fan. I'm 34 and have been a Wing's fan since I was around 12 in 1988- but really started to learn about hockey from my Canadian friends when I turned 18. Just pointing out that just because I'm off on a year doesn't make me a bandwagon fan. I still remember them not being in the playoffs. Lord Stanely 39 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 OK this is driving me nuts- I can't figure out which game was my first NHL game. I'm pretty sure I went at the END of a season in Chicago to see Detroit and then the next day on a Sunday (maybe Saturday) saw the Rangers play. Can't find a schedule that shows the two playing a game apart in the mid 90's in Chicago. I know I was there but man this is weird.
Lord Stanely 39 Report post Posted August 26, 2010 Sunday April 7, 1996 Wings won 4-1 over Blackhawks- the following WEEK we went to see the BLUES (Gretzky was with them still)! Found it! Geesh now if I can just find out who scored in these games see if my rusty steel trap memory can actually work.
Kira 451 Report post Posted August 27, 2010 This isn't easy. I can't pin it down to one. Every year at training camp brings me new memories. One of the best was meeting Pasha for the first time. What an absolute sweetheart he is. The whole team is, really - from the coaches on down. I cherish that one weekend a year, and I'm looking forward to this year (Three more weeks - Woo Hoo!). I loved being at the Joe last year when Pasha scored that wonderful goal against Nashville...right in front of where we were sitting. Even my non-hockey loving husband was floored. Watching Stevie raise the Cup in '97. Vladdie on the ice in '98. I cried, I'm not ashamed to admit it. I also have a wonderful memory of going to a Wings game and seeing Vladdie there. He smiled at me, one of the sweetest smiles I've ever been given. Meeting Gordie Howe at training camp in '06. What a gentleman! Watching San Jose get smoked 6-0 a couple years ago. Laughed myself silly. It was awesome. Watching the 7-0 blowout game in '02. I really laughed at that one. Watching game 3 against Vancouver in '02 when Nick scored from center ice. I can remember exactly where I was. When it happened, I looked at my husband and the other people watching the game and said, "That's the shot that changes everything. We're gonna take it all." Damned if I wasn't right.
Lord Stanely 39 Report post Posted August 27, 2010 So I have a new VERY odd one that is in my mind today. This morning my father had a massive heart attack during surgery and is in critical condition so I have been thinking of him alot through the day. About 2 or 3 seasons ago I went home to visit my family at Thanksgiving time and bought tickets for the Wings game for me my Dad and my two boys to watch the Wings and Blue Jackets. Just before the game my Father came down with a terrible case of the stomach flu and my wife went instead. Goal on Osgood from the blue line when my 10 year old son (Osgood is his favorite player) just put his head in his hands and shook them in embarressment while a Jackets fan sitting right behind him was heckling Osgood. A few minutes later the Wings scored and my son turned around and started heckling the jackets fan. I think the guy was saying Osgood you suck! and my son turned around and yelled at him "Hey buddy- YOU suck"! And then he started an Ozzy chant that actually kept going. Then after the game trying to explain what the poles in the party bus were for was exciting. (nobody else was on it- he just happened to pick us up) All in all it was just a strange night in so many ways.

They then lost in OT like 8 seconds in. I was at that game too! It was far from my first game at The Joe though... What a great moment seeing Yzerman score that goal to pass Lemieux! That was the last time I saw Stevie live on the ice, and what a great way to end it, being able to give him a standing ovation! I'm man enough to admit I teared up. It was my own personal storybook finish! The funny thing too, out of all the times I saw Stevie live, that was the only time I saw him score a goal. It was well worth the wait! Barrie 900 Report post Posted August 30, 2010 (edited) Outside of the cup clinching games, my favorite Red Wings games include: -Game 5 1995 WCF vs. Chicago. Kozzie's OT goal sends us to the final! Who new, that would be the end? -March 26, 1997, the Revenge Game! -Game 6 1997 WCF vs. the Avs. We beat the Avs and are going to the Stanley Cup final! -Game 2 1998 SCF vs. Washington. The 3rd period comeback and Draper's OT goal! -Game 7 2002 WCF vs. the Avs. The 7-0 win! My favorite Wings game, including the cup clinchers! -Game 2 2009 WCF vs. Chicago. Sammy's OT winner! I drove all the way from Chicago to go to that game. I got caught in a hail storm near Kalamazoo and the entire highway stopped moving. It was just enough to make me late for the Yzerman goal. What a kick in the shorts.
