Tomas Tatar

Tatar was just sick in those highlights, absolutely phenomenal. That goal that starts at 2:29 is just hustle, hustle, hustle, all thanks to the kid. Wow.

Mursak is a gem too, what I like about him is that he's got blazing speed and good hands and yet he's more than willing to go to the front of the net (see the goal at 2:40). He snipes a lot of goals but also scores lots of 'garbage' goals.

Coetzee very impressive also.

I wish I had time to watch more Griffins games, they're fun to watch but man, was that just a bad game for Pearce or does he always let in softies?

He's just not a good goalie, career-ahl'er unfortunately.

In two years a great third line for the Wings would be Mursak- Abby- Tatar. I don't know why they haven't been playing the two together more.

I think Mursak has higher upside that Tatar. Both great prospects though.

I disagree there. Tatar was an elite scorer at a younger age than Mursak and he did something few prospects ever manage to do: walk into Detroit's camp in his draft year and blow the brass away. The fact that Holland signed him on the spot and put him into the AHL as a 18 year old (and the youngest player in the entire league!) speaks volumes.

Mursak should be a really good player but Tatar has a chance to be a perennial all-star (not that I think Mursak couldn't do that too :) ).

Jan and Tomas could be the next euro-twins.

He's just not a good goalie, career-ahl'er unfortunately.

Pearce completed his undergrad with the intention of it being pre-med. Apparently his grades are good enough for him to make a run at medical school and he's stated he plans to do that if he doesn't end up being a pro hockey player. I think the time is coming for him to cut his losses and take the mcats.

No wonder our players had nice games, those goalies are TERRIBLE. Pearce is about as garbage as garbage can be. There was on defense to be found in those highlights.

Howard looked terrible as well during his time in the AHL. A bright spot every now and then but most people gave up on him.

Tatar is a really interesting player. When I watch him I don't see an elite stick-handler like Datsyuk or a sniper. He's not big enough to be a power-forward and isn't as strong on the puck as many other players. He isn't an elite play-maker as far as I can tell. In fact, from what I've seen he's average to above-average on just about every category except he seems to see the ice incredibly, incredibly well. He's playing the game two steps ahead of everyone else and it results in him in front of the net, wide open for that split second when the puck is there, too. By the time anyone can react its already in the back of the net.

I'm very optimistic for his potential because that kind of ability is the most difficult to teach. You either see the game or you don't, and this kid sees the game as good as the best of them. His puck-handling, shooting, power, etc can all be improved to a degree as the game he plays becomes more difficult and that's why this kid might be top-3 in a couple years.

I agree with everything you said, but I think Tatar does have a pretty wicked wrister. Tatar came to Grand Rapids labeled as a sniper, but his game has turned in to so much more. I see Tatar having a similar skill set as Zetterberg. There is not one certain thing about Zetterbergs game ever blew me away, but he is still an outstanding player. I see Tatar as the same type of guy, pretty good at everything with a nice shot.

I cannot believe how poor the Griffins' defensive coverage was. That was a sad display. Way too many guys left completely alone in front of the net.

Although Tatar looked awesome. Good for him. I like the hustle.

I agree. If a player does most things well (but not outstanding) he's going to be an awesome player because he'll be a threat on so many levels. Although I would argue Zetterberg's defensive play is way, way above average.
