Commentary question regarding backwards jersey

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Last night one of the announcers made a statement to the affect that after a Wing's win the Jersey is placed with the logo facing into the locker room (back to wall) and when they lose the the players' names are facing the locker room (logo to wall).

Has anyone heard this before and is there a tradition to this or something started recently. What is the story? Is it a like saying when we win the REDWINGS win but when we lose we have to look at ourselves as individuals? Or am i just reading more into it than I should? Any info??

Is this just a Redwings tradition or do other teams do this as well?

It's a tradition of the Wings. Exactly for the reasons stated by the OP. Win as a team, lose as individuals. Not sure when it started, but I believe it's been going on for awhile. I want to say that the story I heard said it started with an equipment manager, but I'm foggy on the details.
