Detroit Red Wings Charity Poker Tournament

I was just wondering if anyone was going to the Detroit Red Wings Charity Poker Tournament at Motor City Casino Hotel on March 14th? Has anyone ever been to the even, I've seen the event advertised before but have never gone. I was considering playing in it but than I looked at the Prizes which are all nice but $300 buy in and the best I can get is a flight with the wings to a preseason game which I believe is with Chicago so really not much of a trip in my opnion. I play Poker for real money and this just doesn't look as good to be as it may sound. Anyone going or can give me more info about the event? Thanks.

Me and a buddy are seriously considering going. The $300 all goes to charity, and you get to play poker with the Red Wings! I believe you can bring one item to get signed. First prize is a trip for 2 on Red Bird II during next years preseason with the team. I believe top 10 get autographed hockey sticks (almost worth the $300 alone). Included in the $300 is a dinner and nights stay at Motor City. Not bad at all.

I'm always ready for a poker game--just totally hooked on no-limit hold'em and don't play any other type of poker--- or cards for that matter. Charity poker would have a different vibe though as your gunnin' for a chance to ride the bird with the rooks...

I love playing No Limit Hold Em I play on PokerStars.com in the medium to small stakes cash games. I also play Crazy Pineapple Poker too that is a lot of fun. I just don't know if I can take the $300 out of my Bankroll and not be able to put it back for a while. I love the idea of the Charity Poker Game and I can understand why none of the prizes can be cash prizes but I'm still up in the air. Any other info please post. Thanks.

<br />I'd go but I don't want to make everyone look bad.<br /><br />I wonder if the Swedes will invite Patrik Antonius and Mats Sundin? <img src='http://www.letsgowings.com/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/yowza.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':yowza:' /><br />

Hey guys - I know of another charity poker tournament thats going on this Sunday, Feb 13th. Its in East Lansing at the MSU Union building.

Its put on by the MSU Rotaract Club of Rotary International. The buy in is pre-selected food items (juice box, fruit packs, cheese n peanut butter crackers...). First place is $2k and there are tons of other prizes. (last year top 70 won a prize).

Last year 548 people came and played, as well as Joe Cata (world series bracelet winner from Michigan) and Dean Hemmrick (Last table finalist).

Registration starts at 11 and cards are dealt at noon.

To register to play, go to MSUHoldemForHunger.com

if you would like to volunteer, or are playing and have a friend to come along and volunteer, please email rotaractdealers@gmail.com

Lol, I'm far from a Pro but I have made decent money playing Poker. Sahamies is a Finn, I'd much rather see Danile Negreanu play at least he's a hockey fan even if he is Canadian and a Leafs fan. He is brilliant and my idol. Sounds like both tournament would be fun but I'd have to win a few Sit N Go's to be able to afford the money without diminishing my bankroll to a point where I would have to go back to micor stakes and small ball touneys. And not be sound rude Martyme but is Joe Cada and he's from Shelby Township Michigan and the Winner of the 2009 World Series of Poker Main Event.

He is? Man, do I feel dumb. All these years I thought he was a Swede. :hehe:

Fun fact: He was interviewed by Zetterberg's wife once. Should be on youtube but I remember they were in a club, I think.

It's not a big deal but I thought he was a swede as well... I doubt Z's wife cared if he was from Jersey, she just wanted to talk to that cat...

Daniel isn't called Kid Poker for nothing but he sometimes irritates me with all his chatter. I realize he's trying to get every edge and all but still...and plus the Leafs fan thing...

I read Mike Matasow's book and noted that part about the Ultimate Bet scandal and haven't played online yet. Also, given that you can play 24/7, I don't want to get carried away since I'm already obsessed with hold 'em.

I haven't gone beyond home games but I'm gonna try tournaments at Casino Windsor soon.

ya, not rude. I didn't feel like doing a google search make sure i spelled his name right and what not. Figured if anyone knew who he was, they'd figure it out. But hey, at least I got him to come to my tournament. They actually mentioned it on ESPN a month after. Kind of cool.

Yeah I know a few people that don't like Daniel for all his chatter but he is great. Another good place to play Hold Em Tournaments is Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Indiana and Turtle Creek Casino in Traverse City, Michigan. I'm not a big fan of Mike Matasow but I wouldn't mind reading his book. I wanna read his and Doyle's (Doyle Brunson) Know as "The God Father of Poker". Still considering whether or not to play in the Red Wings Tourney. We'll see I guess.
