Zion 93 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Who is doing the scheduling? While the breaks are nice, 3 games in 4 nights is NEVER fun. At least the travel is tame: home, Columbus, off, Nashville. As Vancouver is uncatchable, will the Wings settle for a 2nd, 3rd or other place finish?
Mabuhay Red Wings 177 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Isn't the 2nd seed a somewhat undesirable position or something like that? Haven't people called it the "dreaded 2nd seed"? Why is that?
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Isn't the 2nd seed a somewhat undesirable position or something like that? Haven't people called it the "dreaded 2nd seed"? Why is that? Well, the modern playoff format was introduced 1994. From then until 2007 a seventh seed (sometimes both) had knocked off a second seed every single year except once, in 1996. Then it took a break for a little while, but it happened again last year. I don't know if that's actually unusual relative to the other matchups, though. evilzyme 769 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/playoffrace/bracket Modern bracket. I would like to hold second seed, simply because if we play Vancouver I would like to play them in the finals, it would make for a great WCF. Last year yes the 2nd seed got downed in the eastern conference but not western, hell, they won the cup last year.
Doc Holliday 1,888 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 Couldn't care less about the seeding if the team can't pick up the slack. 2nd seed or 8th seed they aren't in any position to win anything with the way they have been performing.
stevkrause 1,247 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 If Chicago stays in 7th, I would gladly take 2nd... you can't discount the toll the travel takes and whatever path takes us the least miles to the SCF, that's the path I want... 2 HadThomasVokounOnFortSt and HankthaTank reacted to this
Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) It will happen this year... But it will be the flyers running in to a hot goalie and their rookie goalie struggling... And yes that means Caps take the conference. Heard it here first (e4) Edited March 15, 2011 by Crashnburnluder
nate94gt 134 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 vancouver is absolutely on fire. i dont see anyone beating them . then again, its sports. just cuz you amass 125 points doesnt mean you win the SC. ask detroit about edmonton 1 Motown4013 reacted to this
Motown4013 350 Report post Posted March 15, 2011 This year, you have about six legit teams that could win it all....I think the Wings have as good of a shot as anyone! My prediction...Vancouver goes out early. I know..everyone will think I am an absolute nutjob for saying so but they have peeked too early. Kesler gets burnt out (happened last year) and without depth, fatigue will kill you. Nashville, Calgary, Dallas, Phx...even Anaheim could all vie for the 8th spot I think any these teams could really pressure the Canucks. Ill eat crow if I am wrong, but it would be the 1st time that a team lead all year and were golfing after the 1st round.

HankthaTank 1,100 Report post Posted March 16, 2011 Luckily, the Eastern teams we play that are coming into our rink, will be playing the 2nd of the back to backs (Caps and Pens). We need to take advantage and really take it to these teams and hit our stride. I feel it coming, just wait and see
