Congrats to Babcock

Tonight's victory was Mike Babcock's 300th behind the bench of the Detroit Red Wings.

He joins Jack Adams and Scotty Bowman as the only 3 coaches in Red Wings history to have 300 wins.

By the time his new contract is up he very well could be the winningest coach in Red Wings history.

Keep up the great work.

This man has accomplished almost everything and is still in his '40's. Will be a Hall of Fame member and will go down as one of the best to ever coach the sport.

No joke. Glen Sather was the other person, not Jack Adams. I crossed out Jack Adams when I quoted your post.

Glen Sather never coached the Detroit Red Wings.

Jack Adams is the winningest coach in Red Wings history with 413 wins.

Sather won a ton of games...but with Edmonton.

No. It's 300 wins in six seasons for any team. The OP was wrong on that point too.

I wasn't wrong on that point because it wasn't the point I was making...

That is an additional point to consider in Babcock's greatness, but my point was solely on Babcock's standing in Detroit Red Wings history.

No part of my post was wrong.

Ah. I see what the OP was trying to say. I just kept hearing what Ken and Mickey were saying during the game. I guess we're both right.

Yes we are.

It is pretty awesome that he is one of 3 to get 300 in 6 seasons also though.

Glen Sather, Scotty Bowman, and now Mike Babcock are the only 3 coaches in NHL history to win 300 games in a six year span. That's what Blueliner was trying to say. The original poster was refering to the all time wins leader in RED WINGS history. Which at this pace Babcock will surpass Adams' total of 413 (which included some wins as coach of the Detroit franchise when they were the Cougars and Falcons prior to becoming the Red Wings) and Scotty Bowman's total of 403.

Babcock could literally pass those totals within two years from now if you can imagine that.

The fact that he's got 300 wins in under six seasons is sick. Seriously, he's averaging better than 50 per season. Let that sink in and realize the magnitude of it.

Absolutely. Now let's add some more banners to the rafters and Hall of Fame career shall be guaranteed. thumbup.gif

I know. Even more amazing when you consider Bowman + Sather had stacked rosters with the 70s Canadiens and 80s Oilers. Babcock has done it in the Cap era.

He'll never win the Adams if he keeps winning games like this!

Sad isn't it?
