Kingston 21 Report post Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) Hey guys, I have some questions about the KHL Draft that to doesn't make sense. Why would teams use their 1st round draft picks in the KHL Jr draft to draft the top prospects in the NHL 2011 Draft. Do they think those top prospects will play for their team? Do the players become part of the KHL team rights? Like, for example St.John's Sea Dogs, top prospect, Jonathan Huberdeau currently rank 3rd overall by the NHL Central Scouting has been selected 5th overall by Vityaz Chekhov. so do Vityaz Chekhov own his rights ? Edit: I just checked Wiki on the KHL draft, why do they have Calle Järnkrok as one of their top prospects in the Draft, wasn't he drafted by the wings last year? this all doesn't make sense to me. joshy207 156 Report post Posted May 29, 2011 Separate leagues, separate drafts. When the WHA was around in the 70s, they and the NHL would draft the same players. Just means the team that drafts that player owns his rights in that league.
SpiritFan 37 Report post Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) Is there a link to the KHL draft anywhere? EDIT: Nevermind... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2011_KHL_Junior_Draft Edited May 29, 2011 by SpiritFan
GSBrooks13 204 Report post Posted May 30, 2011 Its basically the same risk that an NHL team would take drafting a top ranked russian player, you have no guarantee that they will ever play for your team as they could just stay in Russia and play for a KHL team.
