toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted September 20, 2011 I read that the other day as well and I have to admit that while I was reading, all I could think about is "where was the team's medical staff?"

Kindl Surprise 47 Report post Posted September 20, 2011 One of my buddies, I don't know how he ended up at this party, but he was at party with Mike Danton. I guess he's a pretty good guy these days, although still a bit off as one might expect. He heard this story about Danton that he was at the library at the University and he came up behind one of his teammates who was studying there and he put him in a headlock and said "Guess who??" "I don't know!!", choked his teammate, surprised by the tightness of the headlock. "I'll give you a hint!" replied Danton, "If you mess around with me, I'll hire a hitman to kill ya!!" The good news, I guess, is that at least he can joke about it now lol?
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 He's paid his dues and hopefully on the right track. What a life he's had, and good for him for saving his team mate. I also echo the question -- no medical staff? but good on Mike for being there at the right time and knowing what to do.
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted September 21, 2011 I could be way off on this, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to shove s*** in a seizing or convulsing person's mouth.

That's been bugging me too, so now for the PSA: DO NOT put anything in the mouth of a person who is having seizures or convulsions UNLESS the person is actively choking. Back in the day, they used to say to do it to keep the victim from choking on their tongue, but they found that relatively few people actually choke during a fit. They also found that people sticking things in the person's mouth could be dangerous for the victim, and if the rescuer used their fingers, the victim could bite them very hard. Good for Mike in realizing that the person was in need of this, but it should be said that this is a rare occasion, and generally should not be done. Now, back to hockey. Hey, I finally got it. Bergeron realized that Canucks were choking and tried to save Burrows' life. 2 Robert le Tiers and 55fan reacted to this
selkie 10 Report post Posted September 22, 2011 Sounds like Danton was monitoring for an obstructed airway. "Danton was convicted in a failed murder-for-hire plot in 2004, and wrote on his blog that "one of the luxuries" of his jail stint was the chance to become a certified first-aid responder." "I have seen seizures before. In prison, druggies would come in off the streets and have withdrawals," he wrote. "So, when the convulsions did not (stop) after a couple of minutes, I knew something was wrong." "With several players and other help surrounding (Bengtsson) on the ice, his face went from normal tone to Christmas red to snow white," he wrote. "In that process, he was on his back and his jaw became locked while bubbles of blood began to spew between his teeth. Only one thing came to mind. His tongue, I thought."
