Players to Watch

After living in Toledo for 18 years and being exposed to the Wings alot, now that I've hit college I've decided I really should actually get to know the current players some. Yes, I know. Shame on me. I watch games all the time, but it's like watching football casually, you don't really know names outside the big ones. So, besides Datsyuk, Holmstrom, and Lindstrom who're some dudes to make sure to pay attention to?

Anythings besides up and comers I should know about? Thanks to my dad I've had to watch WAY too much hockey night in canada to follow the wings closely.

Don't hate too hard, I've had a Wings jersey since I was a mini-mite and always make the Wings/Jackets game at the Joe. I just am really bad with names.

Hello and welcome.

Firstly, I've bolded out a serious mistake in your post. Be careful not to do that again.

Personally I think that the whole team is worth watching. I can't imagine me following Wings because of just a few players. Big part of the fun is how you get to know all the players by time. Not everyone is a star but they all have a role.

If you really are as green as you seem then I can give you names of a few more core members of the team: Henrik Zetterberg (assistant captain), Johan Franzen (leading goal scorer), Niklas Kronwall (second best defenseman behind Lidström) and Jimmy Howard (a young solid goalie).

... My bad on the typo. Spellcheck freaks out at Hockey player names so I missed that I spelled it wrong.

I'm not overly green, it's an innate ability of mine to watch a team for years and never know the names of the players. I did it with the Bengals and Lions and the Wings are the same way.

Oh, and I bolded something for you too ;) though mine was bigger since my typo ended up meaning a whole different player.

And I know most of the bigger names, it's just Brunnstrom and the other newer players I don't really know much about yet.

Keep an eye on Patrick Eaves and Drew Miller, two of the best penalty killers on the team, next to Helm. Also, Brad Stuart...teamed up with Nik Kronwall, they are the latter-day version of the "Bruise Brothers" - they each bring a rather nasty streak to their game, but when they hit you, it's a clean, legal hit. They don't do head shots or cheap shots - they do it by the book, but they make you sit up and wonder where you are, or if Rod Serling is looking for you (if you're too young to remember "The Twilight Zone" that's the Serling reference).
