Can you imagine that? That's got to be a cool feeling even though you know you're going to ride the pine the whole game.

Are you secretly crossing your fingers that someone runs the starting goalie just so you can get in the game?

Does anyone have any idea what a contract like that would pay? Is it league minimum divided by 82? Or is there a special pay bracket for pro tryout / amateur contracts like this?

p.s. If you haven't read the article, you should. It's pretty funny.

From what i understand, you can sign someone on an emergency contract for situations like this and it doesn't count against the cap.

Exactly, since it's just a try out contract, it doesn't count... the Wings did this last year with that college goalie...

It really doesn't matter. That is because the cap is calculated by the NHL on an ongoing basis (I neglected to say daily because they maybe only look when roster changes are made). The contract would have only counted for 1 day of the season, think their cap is fine even if it was league maximum.
