wings87 1,290 Report post Posted December 2, 2011 Hi all, My 7 year old nephew has been been begging for a red helmet for x-mas, but not sure which brand makes the best for kids. I've looked at the mark messier project helmets but don't know much about them. Does anybody have any experience or opinions in regards to them. Also can you guys recommend any other brands that make red helmets that are considered good for kids, as far as weight and protection goes. I appreciate all your help. Nike Bauer 5500 are the best all around helmet for looks, comfort and safety all things considered I would say. You can get them in red, or you can get black with these cool inserts than are red. You can change them out for ther colours too depending on if he goes to a different team or something. 5500's are best though Edited December 2, 2011 by newfy

Rick D 394 Report post Posted December 2, 2011 I have a Reebok 6k, and I love it. The 11k should be awesome. Check out hockeymonkey.com you can compare the ones you are looking at, and read reviews.

newfy 695 Report post Posted December 2, 2011 Thanks, any opinions on the mark Messier Project, Nike Bauer 9900, or Reebok 11k. Thanks again The messiers and 9900s are safe as can be, but for a 7 year old pretty unnecessary. They also look terrible. Your safest bet is to go with a 5500, noone can complain about getting one of those
nosyt612 103 Report post Posted December 3, 2011 (edited) I bought a new helmet last year after having a Bauer 5000 for years and after looking at all the new helmets I went back to the Bauer 5500. Still the best for look, comfort and right up there for safety. Edited December 3, 2011 by nosyt612
WorkingOvertime 536 Report post Posted December 3, 2011 I bought a new helmet last year after having a Bauer 5000 for years and after looking at all the new helmets I went back to the Bauer 5500. Still the best for look, comfort and right up there for safety. If the 5500 is like the 5000 (seems to be), it also gets my recommendation. It was my favorite helmet- I even had one in red (and one in black). My most recent helmet was a 4000 (for a team) and it isn't nearly as comfertable as the 5000 with a cage. However, I do use the 4000 with my visor as I like the fit of the 4000 better with the visor.

Its the same helmet with a slightly different shell. I got mine while it was still nike/bauer.
