rrasco 1,312 Report post Posted February 15, 2012 (edited) I thought this was a pretty neat little read and a part of Wings' history everyone could enjoy. There was nothing 'usual' about the Wings' visit. They were invited by a warden to play an outdoor game – the first in franchise history – inside the razor wire-topped stone walls and armed watchtowers of the state's most notorious maximum-security prison.Clearly, the game 58 years ago had a far different ambience then the last time the Wings played outdoors in the 2009 Winter Classic at Chicago's Wrigley Field or will when the Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs play at Michigan Stadium on New Year's Day. http://redwings.nhl....s.htm?id=615868 Edited February 15, 2012 by rrasco
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted February 15, 2012 That is a great story. The trophy being a 'honey bucket", presented by the inmates, is the best. Richard Bak's book Detroit Red Wings: The illustrated History refers to the game as "pros and cons".
