dats13owns 157 Report post Posted May 1, 2012 This dud Is handsome. I even dig the fact that it's so traditional that it doesn't have a name on the back. Maybe since the Wings don't listen to our trade ideas and suggestion on line combos they'll listen to this one :-). I wish that I was this creative.
lookalive07 251 Report post Posted May 1, 2012 Thanks for all the positive feedback, guys. Maybe if my future after my Master's in Physics doesn't work out, I can try to get a job working to fix some of the horrendous excuses for jerseys worn by international clubs? 1 55fan reacted to this

Cali-Wing-Nut 102 Report post Posted May 2, 2012 (edited) Main phone number for the Wings is 313-983-6606, Im sure if they want to talk to you will find a way through this number. Send an email to the PR or Advertising depts. I would take off the D's on the shoulders and you may want to put the Winter Classic patch on the front of the shoulder if you are serious about pitching the design to them. I think the design without the D;s is the best interpretation of the original uni and screwing with it is just adding stuff that doesnt need to be there. The D;s of the first rendering worked well but I dont think its fits with the last iteration. A weird rub is if you expect any compensation for the design if it did happen to be used. You may want to get an "in" before sending any images or designs. After there is a written agreement about how the design will be used and royalties for it, if any, then send the designs to them. Reason I say that is large organizations, sports or not, love unsolicited works because they can up and use them and give you nothing, even credit you designed them. Good luck, I hope I can buy one too!!! Edited May 2, 2012 by Cali-Wing-Nut

I would obviously see what they could do for me before I sent them anything, but if they wouldn't budge on that then I wouldn't be too disappointed to send them something anyway because the recognition would be mind blowingly cool. I agree on seeing what you dreamt up, credit or not, would be awesome. Just brought it up because I have seen this first hand through my ex's work. Designs were stolen and presented as their own with absolutley no compensation. Here comes the buzzkill, real world, lawyer powered, life sucking reality of the situation. Dont discount the fact that there is quite a bit of money possible if your design is used. Literally millions of dollars in royalties if you consider just the sweaters sold. The downside is that teams have a lot of copyright law on their side. Unsolicited works with copyrighted logos are theirs to keep (or copy) and also to prosecute against if used without permission. Short and sweet is that you want to make yourself solicited ie; the DRW comes to you for design work.. That isnt all that easy but the only way you are kept in the loop and have a possibilty of any recognition, monetarily or not. NOW. If you dont give two s***s about recognition or 1 dollar in royalties from sales of sweaters, by all means spread this design all over the web. Get an email list of the DRW front office and spam them with it. Suck thing is some graphic design firm will take the credit if they copy you and make a hefty sum of cash in the process. If anything you copyrighted yourself to an extent by adding your name to every rendering but a simple change absolves themselve of that. Thats why youd want an insider that can agree to a solicitation of your work. Regardless of the crapola that is business and everything that goes with it, LGW.com will know its yours if they wear that sweater at the big house qnd Ill give you massive props for it alone. Im sure this forum could probably get enough joojoo going at the DRW that a contest could get you or someone else here picked to design just for the PR. Again, good luck with getting it seen nationwide, I think you have a good eye for design and take artistic criticism the way any graphic designer should... do what other people say looks good lol. I wanna see the Wings in a uni like this and I hope you get some credit evgen if its all access tix to the classic. READ ABOUT UNSOLICTED WORK I can't even begin to thank you for everything in this post. You're awesome. I appreciate you taking the time to pass your knowledge of this kind of stuff to me. All in all, like I said, obviously it would be cool to get paid, but if the organization essentially said "hey dude, sorry, you used our logo, so if you expect any money, tough. But...ehhh...is it cool if we still use it? No? Tough," then they did use it, I frankly don't give a damn. Potentially seeing my design on the ice would be more than enough for me. But yeah, the money thing, I'll try that first
rbkhockey43 52 Report post Posted May 2, 2012 (edited) Nice, maybe something like this for the C and A? If your going to do the english d on the shoulder is shoulder probably use the vintage color imo And here's a shoulder logo from a thread on sportslogos.net http://boards.sports...nter+%2Bclassic Edited May 2, 2012 by rbkhockey43

lookalive07 251 Report post Posted May 3, 2012 UPDATE: After filling out an email form briefly detailing that I had an idea for the design (not sending any pictures or anything), I got a reply from the VP of Marketing Rob Mattina: Dear Brandon,We appreciate your interest in providing creative concepts for the Winter Classic Jersey design. Unfortunately due to NHL policy, we are prohibited from accepting your concepts. Long winded explanation but I hope you understand. In addition, the jersey creative concepts are almost fully complete and even if we could accept, there is no way to turn back at this time. Again, we appreciate your interest and thank you for submitting your request. Sincerely, Rob So, that ends that. I was halfway tempted to send him what I had anyway just so he could take a look, but I doubt anything would really come of it in the long run anyway. So, I'll just leave it as a hobby. However, he did say they were almost complete with the designs, so maybe we'll see something similar to what I, or some of the other LGW members have designed in the recent past. Should be interesting to find out!
centcougar07 216 Report post Posted May 3, 2012 Since LGW is likely to be pretty slow until the end of June, I figured I'd throw together a little idea I had for what I thought our WC jerseys could look like. A couple pieces of history here and there (inverted logo, Detroit Cougars "D" on the shoulder), as well as a little deeper red trim for a vintage-ish look. Anyway, let me know what you think. I have the PSD file, so I can edit it as much as I want, so suggestions are welcome and I'd be willing to attempt any other mock-ups anyone might like to see (within my abilities). Where and how did you design these?

Cali-Wing-Nut 102 Report post Posted May 3, 2012 You tried and thats a whole lot more than most people do, so count yourself a success for giving it a shot. Ive been poking around and it looks like the general idea of the last design is being drawn all over the place giving me the thought that if you did it and others designed something like it, its probably what the Wings are doing as well. Till then we shall have to wait and speculate.
lookalive07 251 Report post Posted May 3, 2012 Where and how did you design these? All I did was google a jersey template and then manipulate the colors and whatnot in Photoshop. I downloaded a NHL fonts package and all the numbers/letters match those used on the jerseys. Then a little copy/paste of some logos and voila!
cusimano_brothers 1,655 Report post Posted May 3, 2012 You're fortunate that you copyrighted it. If not, some intern over at the League would have poached it and claimed that they did it.
lookalive07 251 Report post Posted May 4, 2012 Yeah, it wouldn't really stop anyone from making a simple change, removing the copyright and then claiming it as their own. However, since I only made these a few days ago, and from the sound of the email I got, the actual designs have been in the works for a while, so I doubt it would have really mattered. Plus, if someone did make it public they used my design without my permission, I have the original photoshop .psd files, which I never distributed, so I could definitely make a claim that they were my original works. Either way, I'm just excited to see what they're going to end up going with and if I got anywhere close to it. Unfortunately, judging by last year's reveal, that didn't happen until November if I recall correctly, so we've got a while.
