Guest The Axe Report post Posted July 5, 2012 How do you feel about the way parise and suter played their cards? Reminds me of Lebron/Bosh a little bit. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come.
ogreslayer 1,069 Report post Posted July 5, 2012 With rumors out before July 1st that those two were going to pull a "Miami Heat", I do wonder if either Nashville or Jersey will push the NHL to investigate. The standard player contract in the NHL does include clauses that prevent players from tampering with other players who are under contract, just as teams can't. Would be extremely tough to prove though.
Din758 371 Report post Posted July 5, 2012 is it really tampering when the players themselves talk about their future with each other without any outside influence?
e_prime 1,936 Report post Posted July 5, 2012 Additionally, neither really came out and said, "I'm taking my talents to the Land of 1000 Lakes."
SwedeLundin77 460 Report post Posted July 5, 2012 Yeah, this is overblown and I doubt there'd be any sort of investigation. This is nowhere near the severity of the Lebron/Bosh clown-show.
KrazyGangsta 79 Report post Posted July 5, 2012 No I think they handled it pretty professionaly took some time but I really think it was the Wings that slowed down the process. I think the Wings pitching for Suter and the interest was drawing Suter ... at the end a little overpaying by Minny & help from Parise it was a done deal. Had Suter came to Detroit, Parise would be a Penguin.

If they aren't currently under contract, it's not. If they are though, it can possibly be construed as tampering. In other words, if the only contact Suter & Parise had where they discussed playing together in Minny occured since July 1st, it's not tampering. If they've been talking about it since the last Olympics however, then it could be considered tampering. Same situation as if Jake Gardiner had called up Justin Schultz in May to tell him he shouldn't sign with the Ducks & come play in Toronto with his old college buddy. Just like teams can't do that, neither can players based on the contract they sign to play in the NHL. Either way, pretty difficult to prove but that might not stop Poile & Lamoriello from claiming it.
