A friend of mines mom was a real estate agent back in the day and she was somehow involved in the sale of Shanny's home in Detroit. Apparently all he had in his basement (which was a dark unfinished cellar basically) were boxes of thousands of Shanahan trading cards and cot, not a bed, a cot. He told her that that is where he sleeps on the night before a game. Dude's hardcore.

He's also well known for winding people up with enormous porkies. Remember when it said the media guide that he was a backup goalie for Ireland at the 94 World Cup?

Definitely my favorite player after steve Y. Shanny became a god when he scored that empty netter in the Stanley cup finals in 2002!
