I have no expectations for the Wings today. They came back from being down 3-0. That is incredible. I am happy they have a chance to make history.
But God I hope they pull this off. This is unbelievable. The wings aren't some rogue team either from out of nowhere doing this. They're a scary, intimidating team that has been seasoned for 20 years. If anyone can do it they can.
If they play hard and lose I'll still be proud of them. If they play like crap and get blown out I'll be upset, but they still battled their ass off to have this shot. I have a feeling they'll at least match San Jose all night.
I expect the game to be pretty evenly played. I'm not sure if I will be able to take the overtime if there is one. Ugh.
Mickey Redmond said at the end of the 1st that Thorton is a 'competitor'. I don't think he used the right word there. And, that's not competing, that's poor sportsmanlike conduct.
But whatever. That doesn't compare to what he did in game 5. Thornton is a poor excuse for a captain, i dont' care if they win the series or win the cup. He's pathetic.
I can assure ANYONE that what franzen did wouldn't hurt you or me standing there in skates. Give me a break Thornton.
It's pretty obvious by Setoguche and Thornton that the sharks decided to all sit down and talk about faking their dives again like they did in games 1-3.
That Thornton dive was especially embarassing. It would hvae been nice to see him get a 10 minute misconduct. Just ridiculous.
If the league cares to get that kind of thing out of the game they ought to review stuff like that and fine or suspend players. It is an embarassment to the game.
Has this team forgotten that they're still facing elimination?
The pace we had at the beginning of the game is gone.
News flash, the pace was only like that because SJ wasn't skating as hard. Now that SJ smells blood, they've picked it up, and it has gone back to looking like the last 3 games. This is no mystery.
Time for us to stop thinking we're the ones dictating this series. We're not. We're a step down from SJ and Vancouver.
And, I hate to admit that. But it's true. The last 2 years have proved it. We have to retool a bit and get back on top.
No, actually this stat line says it all for this game.
Shots: SJ 46; Det 25 Score: SJ 2; Det 1
They give up 46 shots to only 25 and you guys are bitchin about dives? 18 shots in the 2nd period alone? Sheeyaat.
Half way thru the 3rd my wife said "One goal isn't going to do it for this game. The Wings better pick it up". She was right.
Dive schmive, the Wings had no jump after the 1st period.
While I agree with you that the wings didn't get enough offense going, I disagree with how you disregarded the dives. The dives have nothing to do with red wing offense. They do however, have something to do with putting the sharks on fake power plays and having increased chances at scoring goals, and oh they tied it on one of those bulls*** powerplays.
So, while I do agree the wings need to pick it up, the fans have every right to ***** about diving and bad calls. Sorry.
It bothers me about 10,000 times more because this is exactly how last year's series got away. Outside of the Game 3 collapse, the Wings were right with the Sharks last year and all the diving and embellishment gave San Jose every chance in the world to win the series. The fact that this series started with the same B.S. is just extremely frustrating.
The problem is that some people around here would say you're simply whining about the refs. I tell those people to go f*** themselves. There is no other sport where referees can have such a profound impact on a game. The NBA comes somewhat close but only in the last couple minutes of a game. In this game anytime in the game it can have a hugely profound affect. So, when the refs decide to give penalties to a team that doesn't deserve the penalty, then yeah we feel robbed.
