#2296498 Red Wings Report Cards

Posted by Cali-Wing-Nut on 24 April 2012 - 12:45 AM

Anyone that thinks Brad Stuart (I wont grace him with a nickname) deserves anything more than a D is blind or high on drugs.

I may sound like a tin-foiler but I seriously think he was trying to throw games. I also expect a negative 5 or more.

He played like Ericcson did last year only we know how he usually plays. We also know that hes in the pocket of SJ right now and wouldnt surprise me if a juicier contract would be offered if we lost here and there. He skated away from pucks, let forwards skate past him without challenging them and flat out played at 50%.

Unless he has a broken foo,t he was sandbagging and/or throwing games.

#2296471 Building a new Wings team (the realists thread)

Posted by WingNut 25 on 23 April 2012 - 11:11 PM

Saw this article over on the Production Line site and it really is good food for thought.

Seeing too much of the NHL video game GM junk in a lot of threads, so I'm making this one for much more realistic talk and scenarios. Here are some of the UFA's on July 1 (assuming they do not resign with their current teams). The UFA class is very underwhelming so realistically the Wings may need to work the trade route to make an impact.

To me, the "all in" UFA's, if they are there on July 1, are Parise and Suter. Holland needs to push and push hard to acquire at least 1 of them and the reasons are obvious. They fill tremendous needs for this Wings team. Their value is in many ways immeasurable to a team trying to get back to elite status.

Our defense will be interesting should Suter sign elsewhere or stay in NashVegas. IMO, Lidstrom will retire. I hope deep down he'll be drawn back by the allure of the Winter Classic in The Big House. But the realist in me says he doesn't want to become Chris Chelios and stay too long. I think he walks away with the kind of sad end that Yzerman had (a disappointing playoff defeat). Stuart is gone. Sad to say but there's a reason his family has never moved and the obvious speculation is that his wife cannot move their daughter due to custody issues. My personal guess is Stuart signs with the Ducks as they need him more than the Sharks or Kings do and CA is his desired destination. Kronwall, White, Ericsson, Smith and Kindl make for a nice group of defenseman but more is needed. I have my doubts on whether or not Quincey will be back but it cost the Wings a #1 to get him so the likelihood they let him go is very small, the likelihood they sign and trade him is quite realistic.

Back to Zach. He is the perfect fit for this Wings team, a sniper that could easily get Datsyuk back up to the sort of point range we expect from him and who gives the Wings that 40 goal scorer they are sorely missing. Now while I've seen it suggested that Franzen and/or Filppula could be moved, I don't see it happening unless an impact scorer is coming back in return. While Mule is extremely streaky, he still pots nearly 30 goals a year for a cap hit of less than $4 million/year. Look at the list below and find me guys who are likely to sign with the Wings who can match that production. Again, a Franzen-type scorer would have to be acquired in trade for the Mule himself. I think Fil and Z have something special and I think we've finally seen the real Fil. I'd hate to see him moved for anything less than someone like a Rick Nash. The problem there is simply that the likelihood of Columbus trading their captain to a hated division rival is slim and none, and slim is packing up to head out of town. So unless the sort of deals like a Richards to LA that caught everyone off guard last year emerge for the Wings to get involved in, the Wings will likely have to rebuild via free agency and look for less earth-shattering moves. Here is the list of UFA's below. As you can see, Suter and Parise are the gems and the rest, well see for yourself.

#2247158 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium Finalized

Posted by LeftWinger on 19 January 2012 - 06:15 PM

Not sure what that has to do with anything... But wait...oh yeah...I forgot where I was posting for a moment.

You don't like posting here, or reading on a...uh, last time I checked, A Detroit Red Wings Forum, then well, I don't need to show you where the door is. You can go to the only place in cyberworld bitching that the Blues aren't in the WC...I am sure you know the address...

Woah...hold on... "anything Detroit"??
Why don't you put together a list for me? Seriously.
I assume there are a few good places to eat?
I guess the Lions were fun to watch this year.
And hey, you can see Canada. What else ya got?

So, first you ***** about all the Wings fans on a Wings forum (go figure) and now you wanna come in a bash our city? You aren't playing with a full deck of cards are you?

But hey, congrats on being in the WC again. Must be nice.

Yep, sure is! It will also be nice when we are in the SCF again, before the Blues. Keep holding on to your dream that this is you best Blues team ever. You'll be looking for a new starting goalie next season...mark those words down....BUDDY.

Oh, and hey look, I too can neg for no reason...

#2247028 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium Finalized

Posted by Esquire on 19 January 2012 - 08:43 AM

Something people don't even stop and consider: Toronto Star.

+1 for this. Very valid points made here as well as adding to my already existing concern. This part was particularly funny:

“The game in Philadelphia was the first time we had sold out a stadium (for an alumni game),” said Collins, who added that the league planned to make some sort of charitable donation related to the Winter Classic event. “This is still new for us.”

then they go on to point out this:

...Flyers season ticket holders who wished to attend the Winter Classic were also required to purchase tickets to the alumni game and an AHL outdoor game

So the NHL forced the purchase of alumni game tickets on to fans that were already paying for Winter Classic tickets, and the reason given for not handling alumni revenue cuts is that this was "new to them"???

Correct me if I am wrong, but they would have known exactly how much money they were going to be making if the WC and alumni tickets were a 1:1 ratio.

Posted by LeftWinger on 18 January 2012 - 04:04 PM

That's just spin. I'm not really focusing on the Wings, just the constant appearance of the same teams over the past few years.
In each game after the first two, there has been one new team and one team that has been recycled.

False....maybe do they research before you post something this dumb.

I am well aware of that. And it makes sense. I've made that comment before.
The Blues do have a decent following and traditionally get very good ratings when on national television.
The success part has alluded them in previous seasons, but it seems they have the ship righted...finally. This was supposed to happen last year, but better late than never.

Don't count your chickens buddy. Your team has been WAY better than this and didn't even get a sniff of the SCF, due mostly by the Detroit Red Wings, which explains your utter hatred for everything Red & White. Which is blatantly obvious by everything you post. And BTW, if the Blues had a decent enough following outside of St. Louis, there wouldn't be talks of Western Conference treason if the Wings headed East. They are the money maker in the West...that is why they are in the Classic...again. Odds are, they will be there a third time before St. Louis gets in once.

First, I do not have an inferiority complex towards the Wings. It's simply a sports rivalry-hatred kind of thing. Don't read too much into it. And that has nothing to do with my rant on the Winter Classic. It's all about recycling teams so quickly. Obviously Detroit deserves to be in it...I was surprised they didn't get in the first one, but whatever. But being in it twice in four years? Come on. It's annoying.
Second... I don't have a second.

Something tells me that if it were the Blues in it twice in four years, we wouldn't be reading your rants. Or if they have actually won anything....ever.

I wouldn't say that. I can easily see San Jose or LA getting in.

Ya, if they are playing in Detroit/Boston/New York/Chicago etc...

These blues fans make me laugh, they have so much jealousy and hatred for anything Detroit that everything they try to say objectively comes off smelling like rotten tomatoes or sour grapes. It's pretty nauseating.
